    A weird follow-up:

On FMLA from paper. Earlier tweets did not meet standards for publication.

Even if the shooting was justified, nothing the cops could release would make them look good.

    It's a tragedy either way.

    Wow. That's interesting.

I don't see them disowning it outright, so conceivably, they are trying to get someone else to confirm what one source has told them.

16 yr old girl shot and killed in Englewood section of Chicago.
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-man-shot-on-south-side-20140815-story.html

"In the hours after Shaquise Buckner, 16, died in Englewood, friends and family erected three separate memorials to the girl. Childhood friend Kuiwana Torry, 15, described Buckner as an intelligent young woman and said she dreamed of studying criminal justice."

She'll probably be fired as the Oregonian set the precedent on firing pregnant reporters on FMLA for working.

What's weird is how local reporting is getting swallowed up and spit out.

Local reporters name the officer and also say he had fractured a cheekbone in the fight.

This causes mass freakout from the chief who angrily denies it.

How many days later does he name the officer and then how many more days for them to confirm or even report he had been injured?

I don't believe in conspiracy theories but I don't know or understand what the motivation might be for the local cops to deny and delay confirmation.

The longer it goes, the weirder it gets.

One thing I've heard over and over in #Ferguson is that if Wilson isn't indicted, or if he's acquitted, then we haven't seen the half of it.

The school board in Compton, California, has voted to arm campus police officers with AR-15 rifles, according to the Los Angeles public radio station KPCC. Some parents and students are expressing discomfort, citing the same sorts of concerns sparked by the militarized police force of Ferguson, Missouri. In Compton, the local police union says its officers are hardly alone in seeking such weapons

  12. Wait until security guards are militarized. For some reason, one of the local grocery stores has an armed guard by the door. It must just be that locations, as other nearby stores in the chain do not have armed guards.
