That's just a complete misrepresentation of the discussion that has gone on here.

As much as people itch to put the SportsJournalists.com left and the SportsJournalists.com right into the left and right boxes they all know and love, the discourse here is about 1,000 times more nuanced than what you'll get anywhere else.

    In essence:

SportsJournalists.com left: The police in Ferguson need to be more transparent.

SportsJournalists.com right: The media should be cautious about shaping the narrative before all the facts are in.

That's basically it. That's the big divide.

    You've got to love teachers.

I heard this story on NPR yesterday, at first, the intro made it sound like they were volunteering in their neighborhood:

But, then you get to the kicker:

That's right, they're going to get paid for the whole day because they spent an hour or two cleaning up.

    What a country!

Elise, he's not "taking some civic action of his own". He's getting paid for the day.

They're under contract. They're getting paid for the day anyway.

But yeah, they must be the only school district in the country that has professional development days. Who has heard of such a thing?

Teachers are the real problem. And the media.

Teachers also get paid for snow days. THEY GET PAID TO BUILD SNOWMEN AND GO SLEDDING!

They must get tired working those six-hour days for just 185 days a year.

Did you know that American teachers can get sick and still get paid for the missed day?

They get something called, "sick days."

Back in my day it was an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. And I walked to school, up hill, both ways none of these pansy buses hauling me around.

  7. Baron complaining about unionized teachers? Someone else is definitely posting under his name. Can't tell if it's satire, as his previous posts in the thread have thrown us for a loop.

Hopefully I'm not d_bing this thread, but I thought this was interesting about why Obama isn't speaking out more on Ferguson:

    http://www.vox.com/2014/8/18/6031197/obama-ferguson-race-speech?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_name=share-button&utm_campaign=vox&utm_content=article-share-top

Basically, it's because a lot of white people find anything he says about race to be divisive, no matter what Obama's intent. There are numbers that explain why.

That was sarcasm. Sorry I didn't use the blue font.

And Gov. Nixon steps into it again, calling for a "vigorous prosecution".

Of course, the investigation is still going on and the grand jury hasn't met yet.
