Because rabbis are shot dead on the street every day for no reason.

Until the suspects are caught and their motive is known, there is no indication is was a hate crime.

Unarmed teen shot and killed by police in suburban St. Louis:

At a news conference Sunday, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said the fatal shooting of a black teenager came after an altercation that involved two people and a police officer.

On Saturday, 18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis. The shooting occurred around noon Saturday at the Canfield Green Apartment complex.

Belmar said the incident started when Brown physically assaulted the police officer, pushing him into the officer's vehicle. He said there was a struggle inside the car, and at some point Brown reached for the officer's weapon. One shot was fired inside the vehicle.

Brown suffered fatal gunshot wounds outside of the vehicle, approximately 35 feet from the car. Belmar said multiple shell casings were found at the scene, and that Brown was shot more than once, but an exact number of shots fired has not yet been determined. All the shell casings came from the officer's weapon.

Belmar confirmed Brown was unarmed at the time of the shooting. He did not say what led to the struggle inside the officer's car.

Teen's om thinks the cop should be arrested, jailed, and be given the death penalty:

The mother of an 18-year-old black man shot and killed in a St. Louis suburb says she doesn’t understand why police didn’t subdue her son with a club or Taser, and she says the policeman who shot him should be jailed.

Lesley McSpadden says her son, Michael Brown, had graduated from high school and was headed to college.

McSpadden was speaking at the site of the Saturday killing. She says police have not explained why her son was confronted by the officer.

“I would like to see him fired,” McSpadden said Sunday. “I would like to see him go to jail with the death penalty.”

Local residents are not happy:

Hundreds of demonstrators -- as many as 1,000 at the height of the protests, according to police -- converged on the scene Saturday, at one point driving away a police squad car, French said on Twitter.

Scores of police officers lined the street. One of them held the leash of a barking dog, and French said some officers wielded shotguns. One image showed a riot van on the scene.

Demonstrators held their hands in the air and chanted, "We are Michael Brown." Others held signs, including one that said, "No justice, no peace" and another that read, "Police stops should not = dead kids." There were reports that some protesters yelled, "Kill the police."

Demonstrators at one point set a Dumpster on fire, according to CNN affiliate KMOV, and Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson told KSDK, "It did get a little tense when, twice, several shots were fired."

The Ferguson Police Department called more than 100 officers from 15 jurisdictions to secure the scene, KMOV reported.

"We had what probably bordered on riot conditions," Jackson said, explaining that it took hours to process the scene, collect evidence and move Brown's body.

Later, according to media reports, about 100 people took their protest to the Police Department in Ferguson, a northern suburb that's about a 20-minute drive from St. Louis. Officers were deployed to ensure the demonstrations were peaceful, the police chief said.
