Power went out here 20 minutes ago. Back on now. I think a lot of places that got power back this week will lose it today and tomorrow, and a lot of trees that were loosened by Gustav will come out of the ground.

Something tells me UNT-LSU will be far more problematic than LSU officials hoped for when they said "Game on."

Interstate 45 is jam-packed, and TxDOT says there will be no contraflows.

If you're going north, take the side roads.

Football_Bat, am I wrong in thinking The Woodlands and surrounding area could be a dangerous launching pad for a lot of flying missiles trees this weekend?

As big as this storm is, there will be trees toppling as far inland as Palestine. Wind damage alone in Greater Houston will be massive. That's too bad because Houston has some gorgeous northern burbs.

I'm afraid if Ike hits west of the bay, the Houston Ship Channel will be a surge conduit just like Mister Go was during Katrina.

Did MSNBC just show remnants of hard waves clearing the 17-foot wall in Galveston?

If that is so, this early, damn those people have to get out of there.

Stephanie Abrams has been hammering that theme all morning. She keeps saying "I'm concerned" about the water wall, almost as if she's the only one who's considered it. She'd do well to change that to "We're concerned," because she's coming off as a person who thinks she has the market cornered on figuring out the obvious.

But yes, Galveston is in trouble.

I don't care about her tits; she fell out of the annoying dumbshit tree and hit every tree.

Never have the Cowboys had a more strategically placed Monday night game

If this thing is a 3, none of these tall business buildings will be inhabitable by employees for weeks.

By rule, you can add about 10-20 more mph to sustained wind speed at ground level to gauge the wind that will be hitting those high-in-the-air structures.

Also, I would anticipate that the tooty-fruity buildings with retractable roofs could be severely compromised. If I were running a sports department at the Chronicle, I would put a writer and a shooter into the bomb-shelter-looking Astrodome to be able to quickly get imagery and words from that area quickly.

One of our local stations runs a really good weather BLOG! (Slappy will hate me for this.) Anyway, they have a mucho disturbing paragraph up.

Also has a link to Houston TV stations.
