    With a warmed-up Gulf? No, it doesn't.

To give a little perspective for those not familiar with the seawall in Galveston, the seawall is 17 feet tall. So the fact that the water is at the top of that wall before the storm even hits is very scary. Watching the ocean just wave up onto that road is certainly an image I never thought I would see.

I am about 85 miles north of Galveston and we are just now seeing the trees move from the wind. However, the sky is still bright.

Arkansas just declared a state emergency over gasoline supplies.
Texas is shutting down the pipelines that bring gas into the state and Arkansas is expected to run out of gas between now and Sunday.
Gas has jumped from $3.50 or so, to over five bucks in some spots.
Arkansas's Attorney General has said to save receipts because he will be suing people over price gouging.

He will make a major name for himself if he actually pulls that off.

I know traffic has picked up a bit here, and the local news has just said "if you haven't been to the grocery store to stock up on water and food supplies, you need to go now as these items are moving fast."
Which is odd because I just came back from the grocery store and they looked fully stocked to me.
Gas is up 9 cents here, again. I filled up at 3.46 on Tuesday. Next day it was 3.55 now it's 3.64. I'll be topping off, I can't imagine what it's going to be come Sunday.

Having lived on the coast during two of the major ones to hit Texas, I have everyone down there in my thoughts. It ain't gonna be pretty. And I can't figure why anyone would still be left in Galveston. My family owns a house on Jamaica Beach and really, the attitude is just screw it. Trying to save your property is nowhere near important as saving your life.

That Surfside City place on the Chron.com pictures just tells me in explicit ways how stupid some people are. The damn water is already a foot up in the streets and the Hurricane is a half-day from landfall and these people, living on stilts, are going to ride it out?

I've got the image of Glen Campbell singing:

"Galveston, O Galveston, I can see that big bitch coming....I can see your shore eroding...."

    Holy crap.

Are you watching MSNBC right now with these Coast Guard rescues?

If a Coast Guarder loses his/her life, I will be really pissed.

The wife grew up in Clear Lake and her family still lives there. her mother and sisters left yesterday, but her father is still there, and taking a nap last I was told. He also went out for a run today, but couldn't finish because there was water along his route. The wife's favorite restaurant growing up already has four feet of water in it, and yet he still doesn't want to leave and continues to be stubborn. My mother-in-law is pleading with him, but he hasn't budged yet. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

I'm not sure where Freeport is, but it is completely cut off now. Galveston Island apparently still has one way out, but the flooding is about to cut Broadway St./I-45 off.
