If you can jump on KHOU.com there's a guy in a bear costume walking along Seawall Blvd. in Galveston.

Watching KHOU's coverage on DirecTV Channel 361, and they just cut to one of their reporters interviewing a family who was staying, in the genius mother's words, "because I have animals and children and I need to protect my house."
News people back in the studio: "We understand her wanting to protect her house, but if she stays and the house gets washed away, what good does that do?"
    Point, KHOU.
They cut back, and the genius Galvestonian shouts, "The pier's gone!"
Sure enough, they cut to the pier, and it is in shambles.
And you're staying with your family there..... why??

    I just saw that.

I was hoping he would come over and fuck with the reporter, but he stayed away.

I was hoping for that too.

There are people jet skiing on Houston's inland bays. If I'm the coast guard I don't even bother trying to make rescues if it's too rough.

    Wow, that's bullshit.

So, people tried to ride out the storm and already had to be plucked off the roof's of their house? That is ridiculous. I mean, I don't want to say fuck those people, but at the same time, maybe you should have left.

No reason to risk valuable Coast Guard lives if you're dumb enough to be out there in it.

Staplegun a "Be an idiot at your own risk" sign to a few telephone poles and then walk away.

Remember, as late as Wednesday night, the mayor of Galveston was saying a mandatory evac wasn't needed.

So apparently, there's a "the wall will save us" mentality in the town.

    Oh. OK.

One resident did just say that she was going to leave this morning, but the water rose much faster than they thought it would.

Don't get me wrong: My ass would've been out of town two days ago. But when the town leadership isn't acting like it's a big deal till 24 hours ago...

I heard the mayor of Galveston say last night she was going to ride out the storm. If she doesn't leave, she will die. End of story.

I have it on KHOU now. They said 45 was still open, but not for long.

Wow, waves are already going up and over the seawall in Galveston.

    That video is amazing.

Did anyone see the reporter who got hit by a wave and apparently almost sucked into the ocean earlier? I didn't see it, but he was just talking about and is obviously gun-shy now. A big wave crashed behind him and he stopped talking and started walking quickly toward the cameraman.
