As bad as things may be when light reveals in the next hour or two, it could have been much, much worse there.

    Because it pushed east?

KHOU had an interview with the Galveston fire chief talking about how a family with two kids hopped into their boat and made it to the hotel where all the reporters are, while the eye was over Galveston.

I'm guessing there will be a good newspaper story coming out of that one.

Centerpoint, the main power company for Houston, is saying nearly all of its 2 million customers are without power. A rep is saying it will be 18 days at a minimum before all power is restored.

One of the men was the manager, he is OK.

The other guy was an employee and the 4-year-old is his daughter, they both received extensive burns according to KHOU.

Morning is breaking. I'd imagine we will see some intense video from Galveston soon.

KHOU reporting, according to whoever was just speaking in Galveston, this will be the largest search and rescue operation in the history of the state of Texas. Jesus.

Wow, the mayor of Houston just said residents need to conserve water and there is a chance residents will have to boil water. This could become more critical, especially with the expected rise in temperatures which will follow Ike leaving the area.

You need to have the bottled water.

Boiling significant quantities can be dicey when all you don't have your stove.

I guess I'm just shocked that the water could go out in a city as large as Houston. I don't know, it just seems crazy. I can understand Galveston or a small town, not a major American city.

The JP Morgan building downtown, which is 75 stories tall, had nearly every window blown out.

Is the Metro-mess going to get hit? I have a friend in North Richland Hills, just curious.
