Cleveland's getting hammered with only "win" ? WTF? The Browns and the Buckeyes got hammered by Pittsburgh and USC - and LOST, not won.

Pretty sure he meant wind, not win.

Plain Dealer reporting that three deaths in Ohio are attributed to Ike.

I have read that there were three deaths in Louisiana and eight in Texas because of Ike. That's where the freaking hurricane hit!

(This isn't directed at you) But I'm not hearing the same self-righteous indignation from certain people -- and posters-- about the number of people not evacuating from Galveston compared to howls about people not evacuating New Orleans. I have a pretty good idea why.

Rant about the media coverage after Ike:

We stopped watching television because we got so sick and tired of all the stations interviewing people who were bitching because "FEMA hasn't brought us any ice. We don't have ice and we want ice." Then they move to live coverage of the few supermarkets that are open and running on generators to show people standing in front of the ice machines, waiting for them to make ice. We have much bigger problems that not having ice. Like maybe our shortage of something really important, like GAS. And the point was made worse when I got a PM here today from someone that roughly said something along the lines of "Really, there's a shortage of gas down there?" So even the media stories coming out of here are not painting an accurate picture of the reality down here. Why is that? Why is the media not focusing on the stuff that actually matters?

Just now, I turned on the news again. And lo and behold, they are doing a story on a store that has (gasp!) some ice and they are limiting each person to two bags. Well fuck me running. A few lucky fools got their precious ice. I'm turning the news off again. I'll wait on someone to text me letting me know that we have gas again. Until then, I'm just going to sit outside and stare at my uprooted trees.

    Rant over.

Nice rant. I understand your frustration, and I'm usually the first person to start trashing TV news coverage.

But let me point out something that occurred to me when Fay hit here. Without ice, everything in my fridge and freezer go in the trash. If you have the extra money to hit the grocery store when power is restored, it's not much of a concern.

If you're barely able to buy groceries, though, you're screwed if the food spoils, melts, etc. That's why people are going nuts. They're panicking. They're afraid their families are going to starve.
