So I go to work and come back in here to see Junkie's had a meltdown, renounced his Indians fandom yet ripped Sox fans to shreds -- like LJB did last week, too -- for being holier-than-thou fucknuts who have no appreciation for anything outside 128.

Fuck all of you, I say. Stay bitter.

As far as tonight, Pedroia proved he is the real deal. He's hit the ball well all series, just at people, and on the biggest stage tonight, he breaks out and slams a key homer plus a very key three-run double.

I was impressed that Dice-K was able to put together the five innings without falling apart, and I was impressed with Okajima holding it together for two-plus innings, too. Once again, Francona made good moves.

Speaking of Tito and pressing the right buttons ... The day the 2004 season began, The Providence Journal ran a guest column by Angelo Cataldi of WIP in Philly. (Angelo was a ProJo scribe before he moved into radio.) He ripped Francona, saying what a fraud he was and how the Sox would finish in last place every year he was there until he got fired, and how Schilling would make Francona his bitch. Now, two pennants later, it's hard to agree with one thing that he wrote.

  4. Yay, Junkie's back!

Jones, Whitlock and Junkie all return in the same week. Sweet.

Westbrook was successful by throwing off-speed stuff early in the count.
Skinner deserves every piece of criticism heaped his way. 6th inning, you concede that run (especially the way they whacked Westbrook around the 1st 4 innings, get the ball into second to keep the go-ahead run from scoring position and keep the double play in line. Manny wasn't exactly on top of the ball when he threw up the stop sign. That move was coaching scared.

    Get over it, chief.

You ain't Luke anymore, you're Vader. Get used to the other side of the coin.

I understand hating the Yankees, what I don't understand is why other baseball fans don't hate the Red Sox just as much. It is good that at least LJB understands.

Crisp is good at defense, but he isn't the best in the AL by far. And no, his trade value should be shit. The Red Sox should have to pay for him to leave.
He has no arm. Hell, his arm is as bad or worse than Damon's at this point.
I don't know about Gutierrez, but Hunter, Sizemore and Melky Cabrera (because of his arm, not as much as his range) are all better and I am sure there are plenty of others in the AL I can't think of right now.

Plus, trading partners will know the Red Sox want to dump Crisp, so they won't offer as much. His trade value is not high at all.

Angola, they were a high-roller three years ago when they won it all, and everyone seemed to want to ride with the Little Team That Could thing. It was bullshit then and it's bullshit now.

As far as the whole Red Sox Nation deal, I was able to walk into Fenway Park for a song as recent as 10 years ago.

I am convinced Curt's prayers to God last night got the Sox back to the World Series (where a team spending their kind of money belongs).

A lot of Royals fans get it, too. As a friend says, in that rivalry, it's the Yankees and Yankees Light. A big reason the Sox got so much love from other fans in 2004 -- at least, this is my theory -- was because they wanted anyone but the Yankees. "The Curse" merely came with rooting against the Yankees. The Cardinals losing in the World Series was a plus for Royals fans, too.

I can understand rooting for the Red Sox in 2004, but how can any baseball fans that aren't Red Sox fans root for the Red Sox? They are the Yankees light, except they are having postseason success. They are "buying" this World Series trip as much as the Yankees have bought theirs. I just don't get it.
Hate my team. I like it. It makes it more fun. But don't root for the Red Sox, they are just as bad for baseball as the Yankees allegedly are.
