The invitation still stands, Mr. Verducci.

Jacoby Ellsbury never will reach Dave Roberts territory, but he'll rarely pay for drinks in this town thanks to hits like these.

Francona looks like a genius now. If only he'd brought the Indian into the lineup in Game 2, 3 or 4.

I thought about it. And, much like George Costanza, I wonder why plane crashes, killing entire rosters of major-league teams doesn't happen more often. But usually, at least in the last 15 years, any time the Braves lose, it helps the Mets a little bit. So I'm not rooting for the Yankees to win as much as I'm rooting for the Braves to lose.

What did I miss about Verducci? Did he make a bet or a prediction?

Well, now I am glad we are watching Michigan-Illinois in my office.

These last two games could be as big of a bloodbath as when Atlanta destroyed St. Louis in 1996 in Games 5 and 7.

Verducci's AL Cy Young ballot (as printed in SI):

    1. C.C. Sabathia
    2. Fausto Carmona
    3. Josh Beckett

    Whoops.
