  1. I'm not sure what you mean by that but I do know that Richie "Big sexy" Sexson is on pace for 162 HR this season.

  2. How long will it take before Red Sox fans start reckoning the Beckett-for-Ramirez/Sanchez trade as an epochal disaster?
    Tonight's start?

    Casty --

I loves me some Gardenhire. I get pissed off at Gardenhire the way only a true fanboy can get pissed at Gardenhire.

That said, the way he handles young talent makes me want to scream.

Case in point, last season. Francisco Liriano and Jason Bartlett are both sent to AAA to begin the season. Both had awesome camps. But Gardy wanted to try his veteran retreads. They floundered, and both were up before the break. As we saw, both were more than ready for the big leagues.

Same thing this year. Garza is ready. Maybe not ready to win 20 ready, but as ready as he'll ever be. Gardy sent him down. Now the Twins have something like $9 million invested in Ramon Ortiz and Sidney Ponson, not to mention signing Silva to an extension against all logic. And everyone in a four-state area knows Garza will be up soon. Why not try him out now?

With a payroll like the Twins have, they can't afford to be holding good players down and signing $5 million/ year nobodies. That money adds up -- and it might have added up to enough to sign Torii for another season or two.

And don't get me started on Gardenhire's insane obsession with carrying three catchers. The Twins, who had the best pen in baseball last season and who will rely on their pen even more this year, are carrying 11 pitchers. Why? Gardy needs three catchers. So, the logic goes, your best starters and shortstops can go to AAA until needed, but we're keeping the third-string catcher.

    Save me, jeebus.

Depends on how long they can maintain a delusional state. Since they are Red Sox fans, that is a long time.

I'm not sure Sanchez will be as good as he was last year again and Beckett may rebound, but Ramirez is going to make the Red Sox regret that trade for a very long time.

Oz, I know what you mean, but Royals fans have to grab on to every success they can. Same as Pirates fans. The Twins have done a hell of a lot more winning than either of those teams in recent seasons.

I think Beckett has a very, very good year.

And please, all, let's not take seriously some of the posts here.

Zeke - I can understand your anger at Gardenhire. Why in the world would they elect to break camp with Ponson and Ramon Ortiz when they have young studs who have already pitched in the majors?
And color me extremely bitter that the Yankees game is postponed. What the hell am I supposed to do during the day now? Work?

I think a team like the Marlins playing the minor leaguers from DC and going 3-0 would be significant.

Considering they started 11-31 last year and still got to .500, having the confidence bolstered and the pressure reduced initially could be a good thing.

  9. Hanley Ramirez was never going to play for the Red Sox because he boinked Theo Epstein's fiancee just before she got engaged to Theo. That was the real reason Theo left. He had a "it's either Hanley or me - one of has to go" demand which necessitated the trade for Joss Beckett. If you recall - the trade for Beckett came while Theo was on sabbatical. Once Hanley was gone - Theo came back into the fold.

In three games, Marlins have four upper-deck HRs, Cabrera just hit his second one.

Check it again, BYH. The Cubs are always eliminated on Opening Day. :D

Cabrera just hit one 580 miles.

    5-0 Marlins in the third.

    Nats are AWFUL. AFWUL. AWFUL.
