Magglio Ordonez is another I'd fire out there right now.

    .358 avg, 1.132 OPS, 12 HR, 24 2B, 46 RBI, 43 runs, 25/22 BB/SO.

He's probably your leading candidate right now.

Surprising Magglio gets a mention. He deserves to be in the conversation, but he's not the kind of guy ESPN can get behind. Which he was back on the Sox.

Here's what's scary about those numbers.

He started out a little slow.

Yeah, Ortiz, Youkilis and Lowell lead the Red Sox in OPS right now.

No-one has double-digit homers as of tonight.

Ordonez's 36 extra base hits lead teammate Curtis Granderson by five, ARod and Ortiz by seven.

Magglio's not gonna win the MVP until he gets a fuckin' haircut.

The only hair that prevents someone from winning MVP is Bobby Kielty's "Ronald McDonald" Do.

If my team ever wins the World Series, I will not piss and moan about their fortunes for five years afterwards. It's such a special thing to do, such a difficult thing to do, that buys a team a hell of a lot of goodwill.

And my team is one that actually has won a couple in my lifetime . . . . . Can't imagine what it would be like to pull for one of those teams that goes decades between appearances.

In that case, I probably wouldn't say a cross word for a decade.

  9. I wish Yankees fans would share that perspective. With them, it's a birthright and they don't seem to appreciate what those great teams have done in the mid-90s.

  10. I think Hunter should be in that list for MVP.

5 years is over. Time to complain again.

Yesterday was another good example of Torre's greatest failing as a manager (edging out his inability to construct a bench - the mishandling of Arod last year was an aberration). Who had the best chance of protecting the lead in the 7th, Mussina at 95 pitches or Proctor? This isn't hindsight. He turns every pitcher he has into Clemens. You gave me six, you get one baserunner, then - thanks - hit the showers. It costs them games all the time & is frustrating to watch.
