Didn't the Yankees have to guarantee that option to get Abreu to waive his no-trade last year? And doesn't Abreu still have a full no-trade, meaning he'll want even more cash to agree to a deal?

Nobody is paying that kind of money for him.

Yes. Tracking and catching fly balls is one of the very small number of things he does well on the baseball field.

    Sure, you do.

    It will be cathartic.

Maybe they could try some different pitchers? :D

spnited, the only way the Mets could get better is if Joe Mauer and his sideburns came to town.

Not sure about the option. The way I understood it, it is just a straight $17 million option. But you are probably right because the Yankees have proven over and over they will do stupid things to get old, washed up players. I feel like it is the '80s again, except I'm not 8-years-old.

Pretty sure the option is still the team option. I think Abreu's camp wanted it guaranteed but Cashman just waited it out. The Phils wanted him gone and there was nowhere else for him to go.

If this was any other professional sport I would root against the Yankees so they would get the No. 1 draft pick, but that doesn't matter in baseball.
And I will check into the thread just to root against everyone else's teams.

I hear the Yankees have a really patient owner, and that he'll just sit quietly and wait for them to turn it around. Hey ... there's 162 of these things! And there's always next year! They're trying really hard!

Of course it is a Royals fan trying to get me to keep the hope about a team that either can't hit, field or pitch on any given night, is eight games under .500 and is 14.5 games out of first.

I'm a Cubs fan ... and the only reason I still am one is that there's always hope that the next day or next year will be better. It's fun to hope ...
