Rutgers and Maryland have certainly kicked up a little dust in their first couple of weeks in B1G basketball play, with wins over Sparty and Bucky.

WAZZU won three conference games last year. Coach got fired, with former Oregon coach Ernie Kent reuniting with Bill Moos. Cougs had a rough start this year, including a home loss to Idaho. There was considerable question as to whether the Cougs would win any conference games this year. With last night's overtime win over Oregon, WAZZU is 3-1 in conference play.

I saw them play TCU in November and they looked awful.

I'm not sure if the Cougs are that much improved ... or the majority of the Pac-12 is that much down this year.

Might have to get down to Pullman for a game to find out.

This just popped into my e-mail from SMU athletic PR guy Brad Sutton:

"SMU has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. We are working through our response to them, and will have no further comment ."

Larry Brown is alive and well.

Disclaimer: The above is merely a guess. It could be about violations in women's soccer for all I know.

The disclaimer was not necessary. Stunning, I know.

OK, well, golf is being investigated, too.

Let's see, recruit grade-fixing, top recruiter taking an "an indefinite leave of absence for personal reasons"...

    Yup, Larry's in town!

Is the ACC now where coaching legends go to die? It took a season and a half for Boeheim to look like the game had passed him by, and now Pitino is getting embarrassed at home by a Duke team that was in free-fall before today. And Jamie Dixon (not a legend, but well-regarded) and Pitt haven't exactly lit the world on fire since switching leagues.

Louisville is ranked in the top ten, they've done OK despite getting beat by Duke. You think if Tyler Ennis comes back to school like he should have, Syracuse would be where they are? And Pitt has had a multitude of roster issues this year.
