I mean, based on what I've heard people say, that seems to be the case.

I would too - but he is a college guy and now he has no money issues as he cashed in big time. He could go back to the Indiana job, make, what, $3 or $4 million a year and be back to coaching half as many games and being back where he can actually teach the game to guys who want to learn.

Best case for him is that Crean makes the tourney this year, Stevens stays with Celtics into next year, they still suck and he gets fired 40 games into the season - just as Crean's team is crashing and burning and Crean gets fired.

This way he can still have his entire check AND coach in college again

The Celtics love Stevens. They're not firing him.

Crean got the dreaded vote of confidence from the AD, not sure what to think of that.

Conference tournaments are starting, so it's time to start thinking about bid thieves. The American seems like a league where the tournament champ might rob a spot from an at-large team. Tulsa, Temple and Cincy are all on the bubble and capable of winning that tournament. Memphis and UConn and teams that might not even be on the bubble that could win it.

Other teams that may need to win the conference tournament and might be capable:
    A-10: Richmond or GW.
ACC: NC State. The Wolfpack are probably in either way, but I could see State either losing it's first ACC tourney game or playing on Saturday. Such a strange team.
Big 12: K-State. Wildcats are a lot like NC State. They have some terrible losses, but beat five of the top six seeds in the regular season. Texas may or may not need to win it.
Big East: Seton Hall is a complete mess, but certainly talented enough to win games if it somehow gets it together in the next week.
Big Ten: Speaking of Crean,.. If somebody takes out Wisconsin Indiana is one of several teams that could win the Big Ten. Purdue also needs to win at least a couple of games to boost the resume.
C-USA: If Louisiana Tech wins the tournament then ODU is a potential at large team.
Pac-12: I'll be fairly shocked if anybody other than Arizona wins this.
SEC: If Kentucky allows anybody else to win it could shake up the NCAA bracket. Arkansas is in, but A&M and LSU could use a boost.
WCC: BYU and St. Mary's are both capable of knocking off Gonzaga. BYU might get in anyway, but St. Mary's would knock somebody else out.

The AAC tournament is in Hartford. UConn could very conceivably with the damn thing. They beat SMU up there a week or so ago.

As a UVA/Celtics fan, I'm pretty psyched to see Bennett and Stevens linked to IU for the next few months.

My bet is Krzyzewski will hang it up after his 1,000th win at Duke. He'll be 55-60 short after this season, depending how long they run in the tourney.
Williams also can't be long for UNC. Bo Ryan is 67, Izzo is 60 and Beilein 62, so there will be some shuffling in the B1G in the next few years even discounting performance firings.

I think the list of places Tony Bennett leaves for is pretty short, but he'd have to at least give some thought to Wisconsin, right?

Presumably so, although I've read that relations have cooled somewhat between Team Bennett and UW, so the Badger job may not be Bennett's for the asking. Especially if Ryan has an heir-apparent he'd like to steer into the job.

Neither Sparty or U-M have any clear designated successor when Izzo and Beilein hang it up. Izzo's coaching tree in particular seems to have wilted in the last few years. For a few years in the early 2000s it probably would have been Crean (while he was at Marquette) and then Brian Gregory moved into the picture when he was doing well at Dayton. But now Crean is sputtering at IU and Gregory spinning his wheels at Georgia Tech, so neither one of them would be a golden prospect for MSU any more.

The best guess I guess would be both U-M and MSU might hire from their current staffs.

You know, I get that all the time! Weird.
