Speaking of Davis, interesting tweet from ESPN Stats & Info:

I think there are some title teams from the past decade that would have play this Kentucky team even. This is a really good team, but it's not the all-time great team that people are making it out to be. For one thing, they basically just played six guys so any team with depth, or that could get a couple guys in foul trouble would have a more than fighting chance against them.

That is by far their huge potentially fatal flaw. I still wonder what might have happened had Cody Zeller not picked up two quick fouls in the Sweet Sixteen game. Davis was on the bench with two already, against a team that had already beaten them earlier this year and dominated most of that game.

They only played six guys because they only had to play six. They've got a McDonald's All-American (Kyle Wiltjer) who played less than 12 minutes a game.

The same is true of some of the teams being offered as worthy opponents. Ewing's Georgetown team has been mentioned several times. They made three championship games, and won one. Truly great college teams are even less plentiful than we're suggesting.

Is Calipari the most sanctioned coach to win a Championship?

Rupp was suspended a full season.

What do they have in common ...

Wiltjer didn't play more because he wasn't good enough to play more. That's not uncommon for McDonald's All-Americans.

That's only true because the AP didn't pick Danny Manning when he clearly deserved it. He won the Naismith and Wooden awards. And the tweet could have just said Davis and Alcindor are the only players to do it.

The Duke team with Laettner/Hurley/Hill would have won. Those guys may not have amounted to much in the NBA, but they -- especially Laettner -- could play college basketball like nobody's business.
