Running NCAA men's tournament thread 2012

VCU is just not good enough in the halfcourt on offense to survive many tourney games. They scored about five points in the last 10 minutes of that game. If they score seven points in 10 minutes, they win. Hell of a run, though.

They should be a Top 20 team next year if Smart sticks around.

 

From what I've seen, Smart should either stick at VCU, or skip the next steps completely and convince Dolan he wants the Knicks job. Guy's awesome.

 

You know he's gone. He can't go back and shake them down, again. And his stock's higher than Apple's.

I posted earlier that I see his next step being a UNC, Kansas, UCLA, Syracuse, Duke type of move. He has a lifetime contract in Richmond, and if he was smart (pun) his next move should be his last.

 

Iowa State is unibrow beaten right now.

 

The only danger is in that you end up waiting so long that your star fades by the time one of those jobs comes open.

 

He needs to hit up a great program presently in (at least temporary) disrepair. Illinois is borderline.

 

Illinois is a fucking graveyard. He can do better than that but I'm not sure a better job will be open this year.

If Smart wants money and to keep his rep, he should go to the NBA. The bigger schools that'll come chasing him now are the ones that lose because they are who they are, not because of who coaches 'em. Illinois doesn't get Chicago kids because of inherent cultural factors, not because of the name of the coach. If he went to the Knicks or Lakers and gets canned, it's not on him. Rick Pitino's NBA record is, to be polite, mixed. He went to big-time college ball without a hiccup. Twice.

There was only one senior on this VCU team. They will loaded for the next few seasons. That star is not dimming.
