I do wonder what would have to happen for a team owner to end up selling his team for a loss.
But what Silver doesn't point out is that there is a reason teams are referred to as "franchises" like the local McDonald's or Subway. You get the uniforms, the menu, the marketing, but essentially run the business on your own. You don't have to worry about another franchise opening across the street - still you are dependent on the corporation (The League) from doing the right thing to keep you business competitive.
I'd argue that the "communist" tendencies of the NFL are most responsible for the success of the league (most fans feel their teams have a shot at the playoffs every year, no team feels they are two or three years away from being competitive and no team can stockpile talent).

Holy smokes, I've been accused of being pro-player, but that Silver column is unbelievable.

Apparently, Marvin Lewis has accepted that Palmer won't be back and the Bengals are ready to draft his replacement.

If there is a God, send Cam Newton to the Bengals.

I just wonder what they think they can get in return for Palmer.

Mike Brown won't pay what Cecil will demand, much less Cam.

"And with the fourth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Adam Weber, Quarterback, University of Minnesota."

"Arizona is now on the clock."

Don't be too sure. The Newton's have already been paid well and may decide they don't need to hold out to get more.

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the NFL's response to the lawsuit? Checked a number of stories about it but none had a link to it.

    It was filed yesterday:

Many stories about it. None contain the actual brief, though.

So a federal judge wants the NFL and the NFLPA to get back to the table? How is that possible since the union decertified? The NFLPA doesn't have the authority to make a deal.

Because nobody believes the decertification is anything but a tactic?

Never stopped the Bengals from signing high draft picks Ki-Jana Carter and Akili Smith, Carson Palmer, Peter Warrick, Andre Smith and Dan Wilkinson
