If the union decertifield how can they still negotiate on behalf of the players. I've never gotten this concept.

It's fair to call some of them sheeple.

But I think there are also smart fans who back the owners simply because they understand that the owners are the ones with the investment, not the players.

I consider the players to be pampered more than the owners.

It's simple. The decertification was never real. Just a negotiating tactic. Nobody with any sense believed it was real from day one.

    This ....

If that makes me "sheeple" so be it.

Owning an NFL team is an annuity. There's no financial risk involved unless you're reallys stupid, which few of them are. Let me put it this way. When I see owners and former players walking around at the Super Bowl, the owners aren't the ones with permanent limps and palsied limbs.
It never fails to amaze me that people working in a profession where they're constantly screwed over by rich shits still identify with rich shits over athletes. Is penis envy really THAT powerful?

    This is bang on.

When is the last time a franchise was sold for less than it was bought? Yet these "risk takers" still get hundreds of millions from local taxpayers to build stadiums. Sheeple's a good word.

Reading snippets of the new proposed contract it sounds like rookie contracts are locked in for 4 years.

Seems like a raw deal given that average career span of NFL player is less than 3.

To be fair, I don't know of many owners that pay cash when they buy a team. They bank on their operating profits being able to pay the purchase off. As for investments, I'd say the players health is a far more serious investment than the owners make. It's one thing to put your money into something, things go bad? It's just money. You put your heath, your brain function, your mobility on the line? Who really has more to lose?

DeMaurice Smith is losing credibility by the second. He's getting schooled not only in negotiations, but in public relations. The longer this drags out, the more pressure there is on the players. And fans will ultimately direct their anger at them if this thing falls apart.

Which is fine, but the players are going to go on risking their health and crippling themselves either way. This is about how the money is split up.

It certainly seems like the owners are trying to shove an agreement down the players' throats. How this plays out over the next few days will show whether or not that was a wise decision,

Personally, I'm just rooting for a deal to get done with a system as close to what they already had as possible. I really don't care how it gets there or whether a few bucks go one way or the other among the millionaires and billionaires.

Bottom line is the owners are the ones with more of a stake in getting this done fast, so that is where those of us who just want to get on with the season are going to come down.

Just the first round picks. With a team option for a fifth year.

That will make for a few unhappy first rounders. Many will likely loose the most leverage that they had to get a good contract.
