The average fan is going to perceive that the owners took action to get the season started. They don't care about specifics. The average fan is now thinking, "What the fuck, players? We're so close. Don't fuck this up." Again, specifics don't matter. For months, this has been about the owners and THEIR lockout. They owned the work stoppage. Now, that ownership has been transferred to the players. Fair or not, they are now the face of the work stoppage. The average fan is not going to frame this in political or social terms. As oop said, they just want to watch football. They want their catharsis back. Only one thing stands in their way -- the players. That's the perception; that's the reality. I would not want to be DeMaurice Smith right now.

I, for one, hope this whole thing implodes and there's no NFL for the entire season. My life will be just fine and maybe someone will realize the fate of western civilization doesn't rest with what these 32 teams do on Sunday afternoons.

More time to focus on up-and-coming sports like horse racing!

No argument there. The owners certainly did a good job of turning public opinion to their side.

Comparing struggling journalists getting laid off and furloughed by rich shits to million-dollar athletes who aren't getting the extra .5 in their salary because of a CBA feud with the NFL owners is an extreme reach. Apples to oranges.

But, in the players' defense, they're treated like slaves, according to Adrian Peterson.

Ya, the players aren't coal miners getting 30 cents on their dollar at the company store.

it's the principle of the whole thing, not the money.
Take the emotion out of it and I don't know how anybody sides with the owners.

Here we go again. "The people who disagree with me are being emotional." Sorry, but you have to do better than that.

Worrying about the principle of the thing seems kind of emotional to me. The exact terms of the deal has no real impact on the fans. Both sides of this deal are going to get plenty of money. What has a real impact is getting the strike settled sooner rather than later so the games can start. Like it or not, that is going to put some very rational people on the side of the owners.

I keep hearing people say it will be great to get football back. Have I been missing a spring season all these years?

You know it's not a strike, right?

Hell - the reason players aren't in camp right now is because of the owners. THEY locked the players out.
I am struck though that this thing has been going on for months, I figure a lot of the stuff was settled more or less and could have been passed on to the players as it was settled. That said - this agreement will be valid for the duration of 95 percent of the players NFL careers, I can understand their desire to take a few days to digest the thing.

And in other news - the UFL is delaying the start of its season. They were planning to start in August but are facing financial issues.
