valid points all, except for one thing: it assumes kolb is the real deal as a quality starting qb. we're a loooong way from knowing that.

so the iggles unloaded an unhappy no. 2 qb who only plays for them when/if vick is injured an gets a second-round pick (which is an unknown but very valued; could be a future star or bust but high-value nonethless) AND a starting CB.

a great day's work, imo. whichever backup qb they add may well be as effective as kolb was. any way you slice it, kolb had no future in philly and the iggles got a starter of some quality AND a valued draft pick. they will never have reason to regret the deal no matter what kolb becomes 'cause his future in phillywas short.

now, obviously the potential upside for arizona is great with the biggest of 'if's.' if kolb turns out to be legit, they've found their long-term answer at qb. but should he be a bum, the deal could have scott mitchell-like ramifications. and the deal they gave kolb has a huge cap number for an unproven player.

keeping an eye on how it pans out will be fun. what a terrific 48-hour period it's been for the nfl.

    lockout? what lockout?

    You are vastly overrating Rogers-Cromartie.

I'm sure it will. Starks isn't great, but he was the best they had.

Yeah, there's definitely risk involved for the Cardinals. Bottom line, I guess I'd rather roll the dice than go into another season with a QB that you know is awful.

Andy Reid thought highly enough of Kolb to trade McNabb within the division and go into 2010 with Kolb as the starter. (And yes, it looks like McNabb was close to done.. but I still think that speaks highly of Kolb.) When Kolb was healthy last year he was pretty damn good. Getting a concussion straight out of the chute really screwed him.

Realistically, Kolb was their only option with a bright potential upside. That also made him their best hope of keeping Larry Fitzgerald in a year. They may have overpaid a little, but not too much, and I think that's OK. (Given their draft history, I'm not sweating the number two pick all that much anyway.)

And yes, NightHawk is wildly overrating Rodgers-Cromartie.

i disagree. the guy has all the tools, has been a good young player with plenty of 'upside' left. cb's who are 6-2, 200 an run in the 4.4's aren't easy to come by.

he's certainly far from a star yet. but from what i've seen of him and kolb, he certainly looks like a better bet to be very good player than kevin does.

but this is makes horse racing, right? the only thing i know for sure is that over the last 48 hours the nfl went from its lowest point in forever right back to the top of the charts. and this was only one of the rapid-fire transactions that put the league right back into everyone's good graces.

thanks, major league baseball, for keeping me amused until this point. the nfl can take over my attention from here for the rest of the summer.

was there a lockout? could have all been a dream for what it cost the nfl.

On that last bit, we agree.

Regarding Rogers-Cromartie? Meh. I think the draft pick they gave up was more valuable. He has talent and he has shown flashes. Certainly makes the occasional big play. But in terms of consistent coverage? He just isn't that good.

The lockout looks like a dream for what it ending cost the Cardinals. Season's over. See you in 2012, Cards.

Exactly. He'll make a few highlight reel plays, but often the effort just doesn't seem to be there. I don't exactly get the impression the coaching staff is crying over losing him.

This is the guy who was humiliated when the Cardinals nearly won the Super Bowl. Take it with a grain of salt.

Unless he's the second coming of Christ, this team is going nowhere and has severely damaged its future. This is at best a six-win team no matter who plays quarterback, which now has a severely weakened defense and a quarterback that doesn't fit its offense.

Maybe Kolb will work in 2012 after the Cardinals have a new coach if they go to a West Coast offense, but this year is going to be a disaster in Arizona. So I'm holding on to the one positive thought I've got for my sports teams: 71 days until the Senators take the ice.

Let's not start that again. I have already given my reasons why I will never count that season as part of the Cardinals' history.
