Running NFL Preseason Thread

I haven't been paying too much attention yet, mostly because of the Buccos success, but I would imagine Batch is a gonner (if he hasn't announced his retirement already). As much as I don't like Dennis Dixon, or at the very least don't think as highly of him as some others, I just don't think Batch can continue to overcome age year after year. But I trust him more than I do Dixon at this point as the emergency QB.

I don't think anything is official, but I also assume Batch is done.

Not sure what the demand is on Starks coming off neck surgery, but I'm guessing they are planning on moving on without him.

To me, Asamgua to the Jets = Lee to the Phils = Lebron to South Beach.

Sorry five QBs.. Not four ..
I assume Batch is doen too, but I thought that last year.
Not sold on Dixon either, but Tomlin likes him.

The P-G was reporting sources saying Starks could re-sign with the Steelers, but I imagine that would a long shot. I can't imagine no other NFL team offering better money.

As for the Pats, God I hope they fail. Haynesworth and Ocho? Please. Please let the NFL Gods allow this alliance with the Pats to fail.

Roy Williams is headed to the Bears. My first reaction upon hearing that news was expletive-laden. In hindsight, though, it can't hurt to bring in a guy with talent at a position in desperate need of some. Whether he uses it is the big question. But he is going back to the offense in which he produced to a level that once made people think he'd be a star. Fingers crossed.

yeah, i thought 'sexy rexy' was a defensive GENIUS and seeks to be recognized as such. poor guy's ego won't get stroked as much if the jets have the league's best two corners on his defense. i thought he was one of those, 'can take his'n an beat your and take your and beat his'n' fellas.'

but when your 'genius' gets you a head coaching job all that matters is winning. i'm not one of the pundits who freaking out that nfl wideouts will never catch a pass against the jets ever again, but it sure as hell mean that the middle of the field will be flooded with passes against them even more than last season.

i've been hoping that the jets would somehow lose out on nname and have it cost them cromartie in the process, thus weakening their defense after believing it was on the verge of becoming 'historic.'

same with their offense. i've had a laugh over raves about tannenbaum's contractual wizadry after RETAINING santonio. hey, it's always good to retain your own best free agents. but it DOESN'T improve your team. and if we're to believe braylon edwards cannot be retained now, the jets have already had this process cost them brad smith, a valued no. 4 wideout/jack of all trades. and who is now the no. 2 wideout? jericho cotchery? a good no. 3 but not a stretch-the-field no. 2 type. so the passing offense has been weakened.

if these plausible scenarios come true, the excitement/hype over the jets gets doused overnight. hey, sexy rexy and offensive wizard brian schottenheimer will compensate. they're smarter than everyone else, right?

Bears fans just love guys like him. He'll be a fan favorite at Soldier Field...

I'm confused. Are you saying that wanting to add an elite cornerback somehow reflects badly on Ryan? I just don't get the point you were trying to make there.

The Jets still have to improve their pass rush. I don't care how good your corners are. You have to get pressure on the passer.

Regarding Holmes, that may not be an improvement over last season, but is an improvement over the point where they did not have him a week or so ago. And if it is a choice of Holmes or Edwards, I'll take the guy with a history of coming up huge in the playoffs, including the MVP performance in the Super Bowl.

I doubt the Jets are going to go forward with the receiving corps as is. They may not bring back Edwards, but I think they will add somebody.

Talk that Forte is planning to hold out. Just what the Bears need, their most dynamic offensive player and THE safety valve for Cutler out of the mix. They better song him to an extension, and not drag the process out. He's more important than Cutler.

The Jets get Asamgua, I would think Rex will bring out the old 4-6 like his dad ran in Chicago a few times this season.

You had better be able to run against them or throw to your tight end, because the WRs have just been eliminated from the equation if this happens. If healthy, those two corners will be fantastic.
