Meh. He's ok. Nice, big target over the middle when he played, but no great loss to the Steelers.

I don't care about his receiving skills. Was he the extra TE in run formations?

Well, the Bears let Olson go to Carolina, so they had to get something.

Well, in the Bears' current scheme, a TE like Olsen wasn't needed. The team's biggest weakness, even moreso than receiver, is the OL. Olsen was a liability in that sense because he couldn't block. They drafted Kellen Davis a few years ago, and from a pass-catching standpoint, he's more than capable of making up for Olsen's loss, IMO.

LTL, you could be right, but I am always suspicious of guys who get big reps as being tops at their position when they play for losing teams. It's just so easy to avoid people in pro football. I always suspect said player's skills are eroding through disuse.

Also, Asomugha is one of the few legitimately very good people to come through the NFL. Would be a strong candidate for politics in the future -- unless of course he wants to do something useful with his life. Not that that will count for anything on the FA market, but perhaps it's swaying my opinion a bit.

Spaeth is no better than Heath Miller, and IIRC, Spaeth had a big drop last year in the end zone that cost the Steelers the game.

If he was your starter, he would be about the 20th -25th best starting TE in the NFL. Decent backup, but not the girl you want to take to the dance.

It's not the girl you take to the dance that matters, it's the girl you take home.

Either Revis or Asomugha will be covering guys like Hines Ward, Peirre Garcon and the other #2 receivers in football all season long if the Jets get Asomugha.

    That is almost unfair.

Along with all the other annoyances, Steelers fans apparently can't answer a simple question.

He was the third-best blocker among their tight ends and WELL behind both Heath Miller and David Johnson as blockers. If he is an upgrade over Olson, it isn't much of one.

If he can block at all, he's an upgrade in that respect. That's what he was signed for. The Bears have Olsen's replacement as a pass catcher.
