The guy who had (I think still has...) the vote for the team I used to cover would come back every year and brag about which guys he didn't vote for and they were always (in my opinion) guys who should have sailed through. We asked him about why he didn't vote for Irvin and he said, "Because, fuck that guy..."

Holding a guy accountable for quitting on multiple teams is not petty. It probably shouldn't be enough to keep him out for eve one season, but it is a legitimate complaint about Moss's career.

It's a complaint. But anyone who uses that as a reason not to vote him into the HOF is a donk. Sure, he dogged it. But he STILL put up numbers that are unquestionably HOF caliber. Lots of players dog it. Few, if any, come out and admit it like Moss, which that dumbass never should have done.

This is pretty much where I come down. Voting no on Moss is akin to voting no on Barry Bonds if Barry hadn't started juicing.

When did Barry Bonds dog it?

He didn't dog it. But in this hypothetical, it's voters holding someone accountable for personal issues that are obviously outweighed by performance.

I know Bonds didn't dog it. For all the man's flaws, self-motivation never seemed to be an issue.

I'm not saying the voters should hold Moss back for it. Just wondering if it is possible and saying that it is a legitimate complaint about his career.

It's certainly a legitimate complaint, particularly if your name is Norv Turner, Art Shell or Brad Childress. It just shouldn't keep him out of the Hall.

I don't think Irvin was "widely regarded" as the second-best receiver, certainly not on a year-by-year basis. Behind Jerry Rice there was a large group including Cris Carter, Sterling Sharpe, Andre Reed, Tim Brown, Herman Moore, Andre Rison and a host of one- or two-year wonders. Irvin led the league in a major category one time (yardage in '91) and had a career high of 10 TDs, which he did once.

He was near the top of that list and an obviously deserving HOFer, but the comparison to Moss is completely unfounded. Moss changed the entire league the moment he stepped on the field.

Outside of Tom Brady, when did Moss ever play with a top-flight QB?

    Cunningham, Culpepper and Collins?

Cunningham was on the end of his career. Culpepper might have been a never been if not for Moss, and Collins was a decent to good QB, but not elite.

Where's Machine Head when you need him?

(By the way, if it was possible to post that picture in blue font, I would have.)

    Trivia question...

Who was Moss' point guard in high school?
