You could make a pretty good argument that Moss was the greatest high school athlete ever.

    no you can't.

There are guys who have been drafted in multiple sports and guys who have played pro in different sports. Moss was a phenomenal athlete but what about his HS career would make him the best?

forget all the 'look who he played with arguments.' there is no question that moss made a habit of dogging it, which certainly is not a feature that contributes to his hof case. BUT -- and you knew the BUT was coming -- his amazing numbers in spite of this and impact on games he WAS interested in were so off-the-charts mind-blowing it will overcome the sentiment from those who'd like to hold him back 'to teach him a lesson.'

yes, the football hof voting committee has a history of being dominated by bitter old hacks with agendas that veered far from the numers, but it's light years ahead of where it used to be.

yet i suppose if enough voters take the 'no one gets through the first time on MY watch' approach, anything's possible. not that it means spit to me... first year, second year, who the eff really cares? it reflects more on the voters than the player when such a punitive approach rules the day...

and believe me, it KILLS ME to in effect be taking randy's side here. so much about his 'act' repulses me. but that speaks volumes about his talents and production. egads....

Holtz and Bowden will tell you that he is the best prep player that they scouted. Sadly, Lou obsession with Randy destroyed his relationship with Notre Dame.

I'm a huge Randy Moss fanboi, but I do believe his "quitting" should be a mark against him in the vote. Quitting on the field is not "a personal issue." It's a professional one, and it affects on-field performance -- which is the, by far, the most important qualification of the Hall of Fame vote.

I wouldn't have a problem if he failed to get in for one year because of that. Respectfully disagree, shockey. I don't look at the numbers and say, "Wow, look at what he did without trying sometimes." I say: "Jesus, imagine if he did try all the time."

Even so, you judge him on the numbers he DID put up. And those numbers are worthy of a first-ballot HOFer. That it's a question to some people amazes me.

Who cares what he could have done if he tried harder? What he DID do was put up HOF numbers. Easy.

When you look at his numbers, you shouldn't think "Wow. Look what he did without trying." And you shouldn't think "Man. Just imagine what he could have done if he tried." You look at them and think "Well, that's a HOFer." And, if you have a vote (and a shred of integrity), you check the YES box on the ballot. Or however they vote.
