There are probably 83,726,726 athletes that can claim those kinds of HS accomplishments. The first that comes to mind is Percy Harvin. His HS resume would pummel Moss's.

i understand. really, i do.... but you can only vote based upon what a guy actually did, not what he didn't do. there are loads of players who, for a variety of reasons, do not achieve what they could/should have. who's to judge what 'could have been if...' mickey mantle is a 'what if he took better care of himself?' don mattingly is among the many 'what if he didn't get this injury?'

and on and on. my general outlook on this 'first year eligible' issue is if a guy if hof-worthy he'll get my vote from day 1. you don't vote for moss in year 1? fine. then don't vote for him EVER because of these issues you hold sacred. i mean, what about a player's credentials changes to earn your nod in year 2 but not in year 1?

nothing at all except a voter's vain agenda to 'teach him a lesson.' a bit too high and mighty for my taste... i get that we each choose issues to get high and mighty over. i just don't get the inconsistency on the same guy.

Moss' basketball resume is very tough to match. Was Harvin all-state in hoops?

Iverson might a better resume than Harvin.

I bet Moss comes back. This is akin to taking your house off the market when it has not sold for a while. Once the dust settles there will be teams that need Moss and will pay more for his services than they will now.

    Iverson and Harvin > Moss

Don't get me wrong. Moss was a great, great high school athlete. Just seems a little knee-jerk to say he was the greatest high school athlete EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!!!! Relax.

Hell, just in the state of Virginia alone (only using Va. because that's what I'm most familiar with), there are probably 10 kids who came just out of the Hampton Roads-Va Beach area who had a better overall HS career than Moss.

Bryan fucking Randall had a better HS resume than Moss. He was all-state in everything. Multiple state and national player of the year awards, etc...

I didn't say "history of the universe." I just said you could make a good argument for him which places in the conservation of greatest ever.

To me, the two-time hoops player of the year really jumps out at me as do the track numbers when you consider that was the only year he ran track.

And, trust me, I am not a fanboi of Marshall, Minny, NE or Moss.

I want to say Ronald Curry -- who played in the same division as Michael Vick, by the way -- was Parade All-American in both football and basketball, and National Player of the Year in at least football.

Was Randall player of the year?

Moss is in the conversation of greatest HS athlete ever in this regard...."[Insert any number of names here] had a better HS career than Randy Moss, especially if you're making judgments based on awards and stats."

Edit: Randall was a Gatorade National Player of the Year. Probably more than once, but I know once. And Steak is right. Ronald Curry's HS career is 100 times more impressive than Moss's.

greatest h.s. athlete in history? we engage in utterly ridiculous, unproveable debates all the time, but this one may be the MOST utterly ridiculous. at least attach a time-frame that narrows it down. or at least the kiddies 'round here should look beyond, say, the '80s? ??? ???

and start with 'brown, jim' and then get back to me. ::) ::) ::)
