How long before he pulls a hamstring?

    Saints cut Jeremy Shockey:

No surprise, given Shockey's injury history, high salary and the fact that rookie Jimmy Graham emerged as a legitimate weapon late in the season.

    MizzouGrad--
Kitna's one of the nice guys. No doubt he taught Palmer how to be a pro, among other things. Beyond that, it's a marvel that he piloted an NFL team to the playoffs. Or that he now qualifies for a pension.

So very nice of Palmer, but I think playing with an outstanding offensive line, quality running back and a deep, gifted group of receivers had a hell of a lot more to do with Palmer's big numbers a few years back than the guidance of Jon Kitna.

Did Palmer kick your dog or something?

Just because there is a lot of talent around you that doesn't mean you will be great and Pro Bowl caliber. It helps A LOT but a quarterback still has to learn and mature to be able to play with that talent. If Palmer says Kitna helped in his transition I'm going to believe him. Definitely before some guy on a message board who has some bias or grudge.

OoP's talent appraisals are stained with horrible bias. It's unfortunately just something we cope with.

Nope. I thought he was a damn good quarterback at one point. I'm just saying that I think the talent around him had a heck of a lot more to do with his success than the mentoring by Kitna.

He was being nice to a teammate who was supportive of him. For a guy who is so concerned with finding a bias, you sure missed one right there.

I know there is always the temptation to throw a QB to the wolves and hope they succeed like Bradford, Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning and a couple other did.

Palmer definitely benefited by sitting for a year behind Kitna, who is the type of player who wouldn't mind mentoring the kid, unlike what Rodgers dealt with in Green Bay when he was dealing with a aging superstar who is pissed that the team has drafted his replacement.

Mark Brunell is another one who has hung around the league longer than many expected because he accepts his role and the team knows that he can help the young guy. It's a smart way of doing business and the only surprising thing about it is that the Bengals actually did it rather than just throw Palmer to the wolves.

Palmer was once a very good QB, but at some point he realized that he pissed his career away in Cincy and just stopped caring.
