I'm sure there have been, but how many coaching hires were as bad as the Donkeys hiring Josh McDaniels?

Except for one decent year out of Mangini, can't you basically say that about everyone from the Belichick tree who no longer has access to the video at halftime?

Or everyone who coached The Jets besides Weeb Ewbank, Bill Parcells, and Rex Ryan

Any thread like this is not complete without a Ray Handley and Paul Hackett reference.

McDaniels was one of those hires that I think everyone other than Pat Bowlen thought would be a disaster.

He wasted a first-round pick on Tebow. At least it was a late first-rounder.

Orton is one of the most underrated QBs in the NFL.

    What makes Orton underrated?

I don't know about that regarding McDaniels. He was the hot Gruden-like O.C. candidate two years in a row and had his pick of jobs before settling on the Broncos. Turned out to be a colossal Napoleonic asshole with people skills that make Belichick look like Oprah, but at the time he was hired, it was considered a pretty good get.

    Of course, so was Wannstedt.

Most people think he sucks. I don't think he's going to be compared to Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, but I don't think he's a bad player by any stretch.

Not sure what Orton has done for people to think he is a good QB.
I await the inevitable W-L record with the Bears in the one year he handed the ball off retort.

I'm guessing his W-L record is around .500, maybe a little higher. I covered a game that he played during his first season as a starter and I remarked to someone that I thought he was the worst throwing starter I'd ever seen.

I agree that the W-L record can be misleading, but he has a lot more touchdowns than interceptions and has been respectable the last two seasons on some bad Broncos teams.

I'm not trying to say he's great. I'm just trying to say that he's not as bad as some think.

He's so good that the QB starved Dolphins wouldn't give up a second rounder for him.

He will put up some numbers since his team throws the majority of the time because they are trailing early and often.
