Sources: Cam Newton thrown for loop During an interview in Indianapolis at the NFL combine on Thursday night, an unidentified team cracked the poise former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton tried to display while meeting with the media Saturday, a league source said.

According to the source, an NFL assistant coach questioned Newton about why he disobeyed his coach's orders in the BCS National Championship Game. Newton ran a quarterback sneak toward the end of the game rather than take a knee as he was instructed.

Newton was not expecting the NFL to ask him about the incident and did not have a favorable reaction, according to league sources. He got defensive, sources said.

Asked about the interviews, Newton said, "Each and every team keeps you on your toes."

Before taking a single question during his long-awaited appearance before the media at the NFL scouting combine, Newton attempted to put out a different fire.

In a prepared statement, the former Auburn quarterback tried to clarify a recent comment in which he described himself as "not only as a football player, but an entertainer and icon."

Newton noticed the wave of negative reaction and felt he was misunderstood. The Heisman Trophy winner spent his first minute at the podium on Saturday explaining where his focus will be in the future, and later said that he was at fault for being unclear. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/news/story?id=6162145

The fact that Cam Newton said that he's aiming to be an entertainer and icon should be disturbing to a lot of general managers, head coaches, offensive coordinators and quarterback coaching throughout the NFL.

Hopefully, the Carolina Panthers are avoiding him like the plague. That and Jerry Richardson would have to tell Cecil Newton that he and his son would have to take a paycut to play in the NFL.

Confident, seemingly personable, nice-looking kid. He's 21 years old. I don't see the big deal.

But lots of luck being an "entertainer" in Buffalo.

Incredible how flipping on the NFL Combine coverage will clear a room.

Unless he wows at his pro day I see Cam Newton falling on draft day. There are a lot of minor concerns that are adding up. Cheating at Florida, ego, only one year of great performance, ego, mediocre at best Combine, ego, scandal with father at Auburn, ego and nontraditional system in college with few 7-step drops.

I can't imagine Newton falling further than No. 12, and it won't surprise me if he's taken in the top 3, but yeah, some of those comments have to be freaking out coaches and GMs.

I'm warming to the idea of the Niners taking him at No. 7, but I don't think he falls that far.

I will love it if he winds up in Buffalo. Carolina would be good too, but I hope he winds up in Buffalo.

Anyone who wants to make fun of watching the combine, so be it. But without it being televised, there was no way to see how badly he blew it during those throws and how limited he might be. And it was an interesting piece of theater.

I haven't seen it. He was really that bad?

Interesting. ESPN was ready to crown him after the "media only" workout.

Dilfer was anointing him a superstar after the San Diego workout.
