He's not "throwing" his religion at you, so why would you feel the need to throw it back? Unless you do attend or have attended an SEC school not named Florida, wanting Tebow to fail has EVERYTHING to do with his religion. Your explanation is typical secularist hostility masquerading as sports commentary.

There's probably some of that, but I think it's more resistance to the way Tebow was crammed down America's throat in a million Florida game broadcasts. Even if you admired him for his faith, you had get a little sick of that.

God forbid you lived in his coverage zone.

    Talk about overkill

My explanation? I'm pretty sure I made my opinion clear, that I think people want him to fail because of his religion and that I don't agree with that.

Fair enough. But Tebow doesn't push his religion any more than someone like Ray Lewis. Or Deion Sanders, who opened his HOF speech by thanking God. What are your thoughts on those two?

My first thought is that Tebow lives his religion much more through example than either of those guys, and I am far more likely to give him credit for practicing his faith. Overall, though, I don't really put a whole lot more thought into a guy giving thanks to God than I do into him giving thanks to his high school coach. I also don't think people should shy away from writing about faith in features, etc. If you're trying to figure out what makes a guy go and religion is what makes him go, the story seems fairly incomplete without that.

Also, I know a family with a 5-year-old who has Down's syndrome. I saw the kid wearing a Tebow jersey. That said something to me.

Somebody a few pages back was tracking the progress of Alex Smith. The Saints have kept him in check so far (with Gregg Williams bringing loads of pressure) and lead 17-3 at half, behind a nifty TD run from Mark Ingram.

False. Alex Smith makes no progress. He just shuffles in place for years at a time, two steps forward and 2 1/2 steps back.

Why does it matter that a 5-year-od, with or without Down's Syndrome, is wearing a Tebow jersey?

I don't know. Just told me something about the guy's appeal.

The fans of Denver love their quarterbacks. I remember hearing screams for Elway when he was nothing more than a guy who was good at losing Super Bowls, but these screams sounded like he was a rock star and not an athlete. It was like teen age girls shrieking for Elvis.

For how the Yinzers love the Steelers, I have never heard yells like that for an athlete in Pittsburgh.

Ya, Steelers fans are much more level-headed.
