I can buy that argument. Eli Manning is an interesting example because he is so far behind everybody else in this conversation. Sorry, but one amazing drive in an otherwise good-but-not-great career does not make the guy more clutch than Tom Brady.

This is sheer craziness. A "FG Drive" is not clutch enough. To win a Super Bowl? You gotta be kidding me.

Brady didn't need a touchdown. They were tied in both games: 17-17 against the Rams and 29-29 versus Carolina. You're going to tell me Montana and Elway were going for a TD in those situations? Seriously?

In "The Drive" -- Denver was down a touchdown. So a FG was not an option, unless Reeves thought the defence could hold after a kickoff with 39 seconds left.

In Super Bowl 23, a FG would only have tied the game for the 49ers. The Taylor TD was with 39 seconds left, not 0:04 (Patriots/Panthers) or 0:00 (Patriots/Rams). So, they still had time. And, in that situation, I'd go for the TD as late as possible, too, because the coin flip is a worse option than a kick.

Dan Reeves had no option at a FG and Walsh really didn't, either. Bad, bad argument.

Uh, the fact they HAD to get a TD proves my point. Leading a game-winning FG drive in a tie game is clutch; leading a game-winning TD drive when trailing is as clutch as it gets. In Brady's two examples, if he fails, the game's not over. For Montana and Elway it would have been. The respective stakes necessarily make the latter exponentially more clutch.

But the numbers are correct, right?
Can I use this logic when I talk about Roethlisberger?

If you end his career when he is 33, I don't even think he makes the HOF. If he does, it's not by much. It's what he did in his late 30s that pushed him into the great category.

If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

And, no, I don't believe you can use logic.

But anyone who watches him play just knows he is a great player. Like Jeter!

I dare you to find anyone with half a brain who watched Elway play throughout his career and doesn't think he's a great player.

And I've been religiously (although that adverb is understating it a bit) following the NFL since the late '70s. I'm not googling shit up.

This is just some of the stupidest stuff you have ever, ever said on here and you have said a lot.

Comparing Elway's TD's to QB's of this era is ridiculous, compare his stats to the the QB's he played against. He was always considered one of the best players in the league, always. So by your logic there is only one big game a year, the Super Bowl.

If you don't think he makes the HOF at 33 you are a fool and can't be taken seriously.

    Tonight, I learned two things:

    1) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga only plays hurt when he's winning, and

    2) If you only need a field goal to win the Super Bowl, you just aren't too clutch.

Anyone else think Steelers RB Isaac Redman is a poster child for drug testing?
Last year 6-0, 230 lbs... This year 6-0, 245 lbs and described as "perfectly sculpted."

I always get a chuckle out of those who bring an NFL quarterback's worth down to their Super Bowl performances, or even worse, their ability to get there.

Do not TELL me Dan Marino was not a great quarterback. Or Warren Moon. Or Jim Kelly. Or Dan Fouts.

A quarterback cannot bring a team to an NFL title all by himself, no matter how much we want it to be that simple.
