The last second-rounder to not a play a day in the NFL was Cincinnati's Kenny Irons in 2007.

There has only been one first-rounder to not play a day in the NFL since the AFL and NFL drafts were merged in 1967. Baltimore drafted Jim Detwiler in the 1967 draft, but he was damaged goods coming into the draft and never played a game, per Wikipedia.

Once again you have completely moved the goalposts.

Ben tate was hurt all of last year, how does that compare?

I'm not defending Sweed, who sucked hard as a pro, but any second rounder who makes an active roster and playes 20 games is not a bust.

Busts are for players with great expectations. You should never have great expectations for a second round pick, and a late second-round pick at that.

Sweed was hurt all of last year as well.

BTW, Irons was a victim of the ACL bugaboo.

You should probably re-read what you originally posted, how there are plenty of second rounders who never get out of their FIRST camp.

Sweed sucked. I have the bigger issue with calling any second rounder a bust.

I just can't wait now for the list of greatest third-round busts in NFL history. :)

Also, Donnie Avery has showed a lot of promise for the Rams despite his injuries. He's still on their roster, he's just hurt right now.

I can't think of any, either. Just like a first-rounder. Teams just don't want to give up on a guy they took that high so quickly.

Been trying to think of a Steelers' second rounder who should have been cut as a rookie. Could only come up with a first-rounder, Huey Richardson, who was a complete disaster.

Sure Sweed played in 20 games, but he was never good in any of them.

Penn State offensive lineman Andre Johnson was the Redskins' first-round pick in 1996. He made the team, but did not play in a game as a rookie. They cut him the next year in training camp.

He managed to catch on with the Lions a few years later and got into a handful of games.

I can't name any, but if you're talking about the first few decades of the draft, when scouting was basically reading "Street and Smith", I'd think that cutting second rounders hapened more frequently.

But in modern times (say, after 1970)? Pretty rare, I'd think
