He was overthrowing his man on a corner route more than once. He made ridiculous comments afterward that he had underestimated the timing aspect (what quarterbacking fundamentally is) and said he was unfamiliar with his receivers. There were some where you had to throw to a spot and he had trouble doing it.

As one guy said, he throws a nice ball -- but so did JaMarcus.

People who judge football players on workout performance rather than game performance deserve what happens to them. If I recall correctly, Ryan Leaf tore it up in his predraft workouts.
People who judge football players on ONE workout are just hopeless cases. The worst football practice I ever saw a quarterback have was at a 2000 rookie camp. Good thing Bill Belichick overlooked it, 'cause after that, Tom Brady improved.

Yes, Belichick was so enamored with Brady that he took him in the sixth round.

In other news, RIP Coach Janky Spanky:

    Michael --

The guy stunk. It's not harsh to say he blew part of the workout.

It's not the broad jump or bench press or cone drills or other silly stuff. He had trouble with the throws, difficulty that Mallett and Locker and others didn't have.

If I screw up an important part of my job interview, I'm going to know it driving home and expect it to affect my chances.

He also tore it up in the Pac-10 the previous year. He was no workout warrior. Just had a 10-cent head and a 1-cent heart.

Is it the time of year that we speak of Mike Mamula? Spring must be on the way.

Exactly. People can try to engage in a little revisionist history, but Leaf did a lot more to be the No. 2 pick in that draft than just look good at the combine.

To be fair, Cam Newton had a pretty nice year, too.

Put it this way about Leaf...

Manning was the most NFL-ready QB coming out of the draft since Elway and there were some who thought Leaf was better.

I don't remember Arian Foster doing very well at the combine either.
