The NFL's sense of self importance drives me nuts. But, who can blame them when folks are lining up to suck them off?

I'm driving home today from out past O'Hare. At right about 5:15 -- the heart of rush hour -- I'm at about the city limit and in stop and go traffic.

From behind comes a State Police squad car with light & sirens blaring, driving very aggressively. I'm thinking there's an emergency.

Then, I saw a State Police SUV and four big buses following behind. I knew immediately what it was, and as they passed, the sign in the front window confirmed it.

The fucking Cleveland Browns were getting a State Police escort -- two more vehicles brought up the rear -- through rush hour traffic to get to the team hotel, in preparation for a pre-season game.

I know it's standard, but what the fuck is the justification for 4 State Troopers to be escorting this group?

They're a highly paid group of people on a business trip. It would be a scandal if any other company was able to arrange this for their trip/meeting.

Plus, you fly on a charter. Come at some other time than smack dab in the fucking middle of rush hour.

    I'm out.

Makes the Jet / Eagle game useless on Thursday night. No playing.

Ticket policy needs to change. Jets make you buy 2 games
Each one is like burning $500 cash and probably not as satisfying.

Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley is probably already facing some serious questions in Kansas City about how he handled the team's final preseason game. Apparently, he played his starters quite a bit and it was a costly decision.

Starting tight end Tony Moeaki tore his ACL and is out for the season and quarterback Matt Cassel suffered a rib injury that might keep him out of the team's opener. Both injuries happened in the second quarter, when starters are usually long gone from preseason games.

The Chiefs' quarterback if Cassel can't go? Tyler Palko.

You're right on here. I'm sure you'll hear Haley say, "well, we didn't have much of an offseason and our offense really needed some more time in game situations to be better prepared for Week 1." Pal, if you're offense really needed four extra quarters of action in the preseason to get ready for the regular season then you were screwed anyway.

San Antonio's FOX station chatted this weekend, by video teleconference, with the greatest QB that I was bale to witness in my lifetime, Joe Montana, and after plugging his Kraft Foods/Fight Hunger affiliation he picked Colts/Pats in AFC plus Saints/Pack in NFC

The market's had the Texans -3 in this game, all summer. The market knew . . . it's just that lot of other people chose not to see or acknowledge it.

Gregg Easterbrook has had a few rants in his ESPN.com column the last couple of years about this.

Basically, it's taxpayer money wasted, not to mention, there could be some ... I don't know ... actual crimes that could be solved in the time it takes to escort a football team to the stadium.

  11. Second quarter? Hmpf. Jamall Charles was toting the rock in the fourth quarter. And this fantasy owner was pizzed.

Even prior to the aforementioned injuries, I wouldn't have been surprised if Kansas City laid a big turd against Buffalo.
