  1. Yes, because there is no possible reason why anyone anywhere should believe that Hillary -- Hey, mark. "Shillary"? You should know better than wander through Free Republic -- Clinton would be a better president on the merits than Barack Obama, who, as far as I know, isn't any closer to Edwards on Edwards's key issues than she is.

Edwards, the ultimate anti-corporate candidate, endorsing someone who took more PAC and lobbyist money than any other candidate? I don't see it.

Fenian, can you help me out. I'm trying to determine what Hillary has done in her 30-year political career that makes her the best candidate. I've heard her talk, but I don't know what she's actually done.

  4. Alas, stallion, that can be said of every candidate left with a chance of being president. (McCain has some accomplishments, but I hate some of them (line item veto) and other Republicans hate more of them than I do). Edwards was a trial lawyer and a one-term senator. Obama was a community organizer and a state senator and is now less than a one-term senator. HRC was an organizer, on the staff of the impeachment committee in 1972, a corporate lawyer, and advocate for children's rights, and was more active in policy discussions than most First Ladies. None of these people will knock you over with their resumes. (If that were the case, President Richardson would be sworn in next January). I'm certainly not voting for Obama based mainly on his achievements so far. But there's certainly enough professional achievement on both sides to justify a vote for either candidate on that basis.

Meanwhile, what in the hell is this?

The Washington GOP certifies a McCain win with only 87 percent of the vote counted? The doughnuts run out? They're screwing you, Huckmeister!

In other news, Hillary fired her campaign manager.

Once upon a time, we elected a president who had served four terms in the Illinois House of Representatives and one term in the U.S. House, had spent more than a decade as a trial lawyer and had waged one losing battle for a seat in the U.S. Senate. From everything I understand, he turned out to be a pretty decent president.

  7. Exactly my point, although there ain't no Lincolns out there that I can see.
McCain and Obama are running primarily on their personal biographies, although Obama's got the vision thing cooking for him, too. So, to a lesser extent, is Hillary. If we're being honest, the one who's running hardest purely on his professional political record and resume is Huckabee.

Meanwhile, why am I not voting for Hillary? The most underrated man in American politics explains it better than I can. More porn for zeke, too.

I thought Clinton would win Maine today and get a little bump. It doesn't look like that's going to happen.

With nearly half the porn, erm, vote in in Maine, Obama's up 57-42.

I honestly didn't expect this. I'm not playing the expectations game here.

    57-42 with 59 percent in.

  11. MONSTROUS turnout, btw.

I'm hesitant to pronounce momentum with the way things have gone thus far, but, damn, he appears to be rolling.

    Lobster for dinner tonight!
