It's disturbing that Clinton can repeatedly lie so casually about something so completely insignificant.

There's a symbiosis for sure. Her flaks know the golden rule -- give 'em something to talk about, every damn day, even if it's utter bullshit or it makes you look bad in the short term.

But, still, one cannot ignore the national television press' complete unwillingness to tell the truth about the state of the race.

Like so many other things, they give equal time to the arguments of both sides, and call that balance. As though there are a lack of objective metrics out there to use -- and as though any metric matters as much as the delegate count.

MSNBC -- that network that's so "in the tank" for Obama -- had a full-screen graphic today showing the electoral vote totals of the states Clinton had won. As though that mattered at all. And where did that come from? This morning's gangbang, of course.

(I deleted my original post because Zeke already covered it earlier)

I'm not sure what you want from the press, Zeke. Do you want every mention of the campaign to be sure to inform everyone that Hillary is just hanging on?

"Now on CNN, we go to correspondent Coyote Prevent Defense, with the report."

"Thanks. Today at the Clinton campaign, which has no shot to win this thing at this point . . ."

There is still an outlandish, miniscule possibility that she pulls this thing out. You nailed it earlier when you said the press loves the posisbility of a brokered convention: that would keep this thing interesting, at least. The press should continue to cover both sides as long as there are two major candidates in the race. And even in defeat, Hllary remains someone people are interested in hearing about. Even if they'll relish that final "Hillary drops out of the race" story more than any other.

Of course, none of this matters. Your guy is gonna win, Zeke. Hell, he already has. Relax.

I want "the press" and I realize that's an obtuse term, but here we are, I want them in all things, not just this, to quit being so fucking lazy.

I want them to stop making two dial-ins to two conference calls and regurgitating the bullshit from two sides, and calling it balanced.

I want them to for once in my lifetime to quit focusing on anything to do with sex and race to the exclusion of all else.

And I want them to ask hard questions of all sides, but gotcha questions of none.

And I want them to admit that they're happy to play along with BS when it's BS that makes for a better story for them and more ad money for their masters.

I ask that, and nothing more.

    Ship has sailed, Zeke.

The short attention span, "My opinion is based on stupidity" segment of the population has been deemed most desirable by the media/press/those who cover stuff/people with notebooks and/or cameras.

I don't like it either. But the battle is lost.

EDIT: On another note, I've never claimed a horse in this race. But the Clnton defeat is delightful if only for the fact that it keeps James Carville irrelevant.

Well, then, how about a drink?

But, mark my words, the death of journalism won't come from teh Interwebs or greedy publishers: It will come from the bullshit that we ask people to swallow in the name of "balance".

    You mean citizen journalism?

But seriously, bad journalism hurts us more than anything, absolutely.

I would settle, however, for more stories about Sinbad.

I never got a response to an earlier post, so I'll ask again. What's this shit with the polls where McCain is running ahead of both Hillary and Obama in general election voting? Is that real? If so, I might have to vomit.
