Just a random observation, but I find it bitterly ironic that once the "never trust anyone under 35" generation got past 50, they don't trust anyone under 50, based on the age splits of Clinton and Obama's support.

    Ha.

PK was among the first with access to a major soapbox to precisely point out W's logic/policy mishaps, as they were happening. Few others had the clarity of vision -- or the nerve. And count most of those pounding computers for the NYT and WP among those disappointments.

Alas, his body of work since exposing the Master of Disaster for what he is, has reflected a far stronger ability to spotlight said symptoms than the ability to consistently suggest feasible, workable solutions, applicable going forward.

Good God, can we please take this tired whine out back and shoot it?

Krugman is flat wrong when trying to peddle the meme that Obama supporters are the ones acting like "cult followers."

I refer any interested parties to www.hillaryis44.com or www.taylormarsh.com Read the comments, if you can.

I'm a pretty big Obama backer and I don't know of any comparable Obama sites on the Web.

Krugman knows his economics, there is no doubt. As a political pundit, he leaves a lot to be desired.

But where else are those dedicated to defending the indefensible going to go for shelter?

  8. C'mon, zeke.
The lefty blogosphere is chockfull of Obamaphiles whose devotion is, well, unnerving. And our side is still the only one even to intimate that, if our guy doesn't win, his supporters might sit it out.

You clearly didn't read through those comments, then. All kinds of folks saying they'd never vote for Obama. All kinds of folks saying he wins through voter intimidation. All kinds of folks saying really insightful shit like "Obama will lost NY and CA to McCain."

Like I said, if there are similar sites for Obama supporters, I'm not aware of them, and I'm a big Obama guy. Point them out and I'll gladly go there and do my best to tell them to STFU.

Kos was decidedly pro-Edwards until he dropped out. It's pro-Obama now, but with a lot more logic and, frankly, intelligence than either of those two sites.

TPM has played it pretty straight.

    Krugman's flat wrong.

  10. But it is the Obamaphiles who have intimated that they won't turn out for HRC, and not the other way around. I'm not going to go trolling through Atrios, or Digby's place for specific examples, but the "Your candidate sucks" battle has ben remarked upon almost everywhere.

Along the same lines, I think there are plenty of righties who might not vote for McCain. They'd rather a Dem be in office (and screw things up) than see McCain in office and be successful.

In all fairness, though, those are not "Democratic base" voters who would be coming out for anything but a candidate who inspires them. A lot of his supporters don't identify with Democratic politics as much as they identify with his personality. That's sort of backed up by people who aren't big Obama supporters, but which polling shows are undecided about Obama or McCain in a general election. The same polls show that a lot of those people would vote for McCain over Clinton because of how much they dislike her. The people who dislike her, REALLY seem to dislike her. And while she gets a lot of the traditional Democratic Party (the types who will fall in line behind whoever the candidate is), Obama is getting a lot of younger people who probably wouldn't have voted without him, in particular, getting them out to vote. Krugman was right. It also doesn't really make that negative a statement about those people, as far as I am concerned. They have one guy they really like. They shouldn't automatically support someone they don't like.
