Driving from Seattle to Kenosha is not illegal.

Furthermore, they don't have to justify themselves or explain to anyone what they were doing there. We live in a free country.

The actual question you should be asking is whether those cops had probable cause or a warrant. Because nobody will answer that question as of this moment. And that doesn't get into the fact that they were unidentifiable, driving unmarked vehicles and pointing guns at apparently unarmed people.

The Kenosha police answered that question 21 hours ago. (Perhaps it won't be to your liking, but still.)

I’ll say it again: why the hell should I believe any statement from law enforcement other than because they’re authorities? They can lie their asses off and we would never be the wiser.

Also, "suspected controlled substances" means they assumed there would be weed onboard and there wasn't.

That statement is worthless. No, it isn't to my liking. That is because the standard isn't that Barnie Fife had a hunch. It's probable cause. As in the fourth amendment. What they said in that statement arguably doesn't even reach the standard of reasonable suspicion it would take to temporarily detain someone, let alone arrest them.

Too bad they weren't that diligent with the 17-year-old punk. They gave him a bottle of water. Then he killed two people.

    I probably agree with you.

The Riot Kitchen just wasn't there to hand out food.

Well, shit. Now that you've settled that, we don't have to just ignore the fourth amendment, we can deny them all due process and commence with their prison sentences.

In the spirit of understanding, do you think in general the police ignore the fourth amendment far too often? Or this is unique, rare overstep?

I think people know where I'm at with the police. They're around too much, they're armed more often than they should be and, at this point, they're doing more than I or many people would ask them to.

But let's just not mistake what the Riot Kitchen was there to do. It was there to give protesters and rioters the gear they needed to withstand police response and raise hell. That's what they were going to do, and if another poster is going to start talking about diligence as it related to some 17-year-old kid, well, we gotta take all the people with all the long guns off the streets - because you don't know which right-wing nut is going pull shit before they pull shit - and we gotta do that irrespective of whether they've broken a law or done anything wrong.
