Running racism in America thread

Interesting interview with him; good PR crisis work there on his part.

 

The guy doesn't actually blame his racism on his blood sugar... hmmm. Guess we were right for not thinking he was telling the truth. He already used the n-word.

 

It takes at least 20 months to stop saying it, according to Papa John. And he has the best help money can buy.

 

I listened to the clip again. What strikes me is the tone. Like when Thom Brenneman got caught on an open mic — this guy used the word casually.

 

Oh, heck, if I ever have to start taking Cialis, we are in for a hot time in the old town for sure!

 

So you can be swayed by the "i have friends who are black" excuse. Interesting.

 

Matt Rowan simply is waiting for a Black guy to join his shift at the gas station before he stops using the N word, amirite?

 

Well even at Happy Jack's Natco back in those days of guzzling Miller longnecks 18 hours a day, we knew enough not to spew the N-word in front of open mikes to broadcast out into the world. Especially after the sheriff arrived.

 

The black dude who came to work at Happy Jack's name was Aubrey. He was cool-- he was
happy to work in Blazing Saddles jokes to our gas station comedy routines. We called him "The Sheriff" and he loved it. Played it to the hilt. He knew all of Cleavon Little's best lines.
Once when Mrs. Happy Jack, a 55-ish gray-haired schoolteacher type, was there, she asked him, utterly straight-faced, "can you give me a lube?" To which he said, "Ma'am, I am not from Havana."
She had no earthly clue what he was talking about (apparently she hadn't seen the movie). The rest of us almost passed out from laughing.

 

Not at all - but I remember Howard Cosell getting caught up in something like this back in the day, and Jesse Jackson, Ali and others came to his defense rather vehemently. Again - I doubt this is the case here - but too often we hear about something like this and it's all we know about someone - they made a really bad comment, or said something offensive or poorly. Of course, in this case the chances of someone like this being an active volunteer in the local NAACP or having a background in helping people of color is extremely small - but I do think months or years of positives would outweigh a "blood sugar imbalance."

In Clearwater I always was impressed when I went into a home to interview a hot shot recruit and see how immaculate the homes were inside

This blows my mind. This is a HUGE fuckup. You just can’t be wrong about this.
