As evidenced by the rabid belief in “Cadillac-driving welfare queens?” Or even how people convince themselves the panhandlers at busy intersections are part of a crew making thousands of dollars per day and not actually homeless?

"If you aren't personally tailoring the conversation to every single person in a country of 330 million, then really you aren't addressing it" is a great example of this type of deflection.

I don't give a shit about a person "being racist." That's another one of those deflective constructs. Racism isn't an individual issue, it's a structural one. It's the people trying to drag their feet on structural change who always try to obsess over whether they, personally, are being called racist or not.

They have been unfairly advantaged. They do need to come to terms with what that means. Sorry if that makes "them" (you) sad.

This is a thing, certainly. But the problem in the discussion of it is the broad-stroke assertion that all whites must be feeling, believing, and, worst of all, living/acting on it. That's not the case, and, in many, even most, instances, would be assigning too much thought, and consciously manipulative, intentional awareness and negativity to most people's motivations.

What they are promoting is the idea that our society is fundamentally fair and just, and that it is occasionally and unfortunately held back by secretly bad people who blend in among us but actually tremble with hatred inside every time they see a minority. If we could only root out those people and leave everyone else alone, things would be perfect. How *dare* you accuse them of being one of those anger-trembling people?!

The truth is that our society is fundamentally flawed, having been built around the premise that an invisible sky god decided that only white people counted as real people and all other people were there to be exploited for profit much like you would a herd of cattle. It permeates our systems of government, economy, social interaction, education, law enforcement and every other system. In order to repair that damage, it will need to be torn down and rebuilt in many parts, and that will result in some people losing privileges they have become accustomed to. We don't need to find the secret racists. We need to fix the shit built by all the open racists.

Yes, you should be tailoring a conversation about racism to every single person in a country of 330 million. Discrimination happens when individuals interact with each other. If this was simply a matter of addressing structural things, racism would be a matter of changing laws and government policies that discriminate against people -- and which don't exist anymore. We took care of that. Discrimination that does still exist is entrenched in INDIVIDUAL attitudes. And when you categorize people based on their race and tell them they are "deflecting" when they object to you attributing motivations and thoughts to them, you are doing harm, not good.

Not all people fit into the ridiculous cartoon categories in your head. Not all black people or hispanic people or asian people or white people have had the same experiences in life as every other person in their racial group, and they don't all share the same attitudes.

The "doing more harm than good" tone policing is boring and obvious and classic. But to actually say that and mean it? Jeez, that's a whole new level.

Name one U.S. law that discriminates against anyone based on their race.

I know you probably know this, but just in case you don't, I am not taking you seriously in any way, shape, or form. That's seemed to bother you in the past, so you might wanna jump out now if it's gonna bother you again.
