I don't know what that guy thinks that flag "says" but it absolutely is a desecration - of the US flag, of the Confederate flag. It would be like conjoining a Nazi flag with one of Israel.

For the record - I hate those "divided loyalty" hats you see some people wear in areas with two baseball teams just as much.

At different times, the Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Air Force all sponsored NASCAR and IndyCar teams as part of their "recruitment drive" money. At upwards of $20 million a year per car, that was a lot of taxpayer money going in circles.

That's right up there with "Seventeen year old woman", Sean.

I was always told that the Army's sponsorship of Tony Schumacher and their presence at NHRA national events was a recruiting slam dunk.
I don't have any evidence to back it up, but everyone seemed happy with the partnership. Of course, full sponsorship of a top fuel team is a drop in the bucket compared to Cup. It might not even get you the bumper.

Even their not-full-season sponsorship deals haven’t been low-end. The Guard sponsoring Junior’s Cup car and the Navy sponsoring Junior’s Busch team must’ve cost $$$$.

I did like the design of that 01 car, though. Really sharp.

Buschwide sponsorships are a fraction of Cup series deals, obviously. Full season on the JR Motorsports Navy car was probably equivalent to an associate sponsorship on Junior’s Budweiser DEI car, and probably less than what the National Guard paid for a partial season on Junior’s Hendrick rides.

PepsiCo carried most of the freight on the 88.
