Running racism in America thread

This was a very interesting episode of Fresh Air.



The fact that racism is programmed into some medical devices shocked me.

 

"Douchebag" was shocking in 1977.

 

I don’t care if the kid is just 16; cruel and/or unusual punishment is warranted and necessary.

Most every rule about hairstyles and minor uniform violations (track is notorious for this) could stand to be yanked out of the NFHS manual before even getting around to considering the cultural impact. Sports are fun, rules-lawyering is tiresome.

 

Don't know whether you are familiar with the guy in charge of TSSAA officials, but I think his NFHS manual is about a 1983 edition. I'm pretty much a stickler for uniforms being correct, but whatever the girls have tying their hair out of the way shouldn't matter. For him, it's not a race thing; it's a "look at the calendar" thing.

 

Exactly. It’s a scrunchy, not a Wood Bros. engine. Why are we wasting time arguing such nonsense?

 

Seems like the guy had it coming -- not dying but definitely a punch in the face. And I was previously unaware that Tampa has a Lee Roy Selmon Expressway. Is it painted creamsicle colors? If not, it should be.

Haven’t been there since I was a kid and am not familiar with their roadways.
