Well actually, Kentucky is generally considered a Union state after initially declaring neutrality in the war.

I really hate splitting hairs here - and I doubt those voting to gut Affirmative Action feel this way - colleges should be doing more to diversifying their campuses than simply seeing if a box is checked, or the ethnicity of a student. There are ways around this decision, and it might be a little more time-intensive for the universities, but using socio-economic info might be a more effective tool to insure a more diverse student body.

And again, these so-called originalists took a part of the Constitution enacted to give former slaves equal footing in society and turned it on its head, eliminating a way to provide equal footing through a college education. Crazy.

I knew that when I posted it. The meme is slanted a bit - but not too terribly far. I don't believe that McConnell is a big backer of the Lost Cause, but neither is he going to say a word against it. There's plenty of racially related support for the R's. I'd still give it a "mostly true".

Kentucky sent both Union and Confederate brigades to the fighting. There are memorials for each at Vicksburg.

McConnell is at least CSA-curious, if not an outright supporter.

The double-shot of denying Garland a seat...then running Barrett through while people were already voting caused so much damage. Damn every one involved.

One of the most interesting lessons I got from my mentor teacher was how the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause became so important to everything we take for granted. And it was all because the South couldn’t let go of racial superiority. They thought it was going to be the privileges and immunities and then the due process clauses. Turns out that equal protection was the silver bullet to so much. Just sad they’re using it this way.

As for diversifying colleges, in an ideal world, that’s where we’d be. Ways to entice people to get into schools that are highly competitive and offering true diversity. That isn’t how this works. Who you know and what school you went to matter. Grades and story only go so far when you’re from the wrong zip code or, God forbid, a public school. I’d be interested to see how Ivy Leagues handle this. Do they back door affirmative action or do they say nuts to this and take all but legacies, rich white people and Chinese, Japanese or others from highly competitive Asian cultures.

In my perfect world, I-Know-My-ABCs, Gorsuch and Beer Kavenaugh get impeached. And we throw on three moderates in their place. Don’t want to tip the apple cart but won’t destroy rights either. Alas that world only exists in my head.

Why would any of them deserve impeachment?

Pretty soon the whites are going to run out of excuses….who will they blame now for their failures?
