Much of this ground has already been covered up the page, but for the Fox crowd, this story has gone very nicely. If it had just been a sick, white cis man like 99.99% of cases of this nature, they'd have to do the "mental health" and "don't want to politicize this tragedy," but the fact that the shooter is a trans man does a great job to reinforce the "threat" their viewership believes transgendered people pose to Christians of their ilk. Almost all of the transphobic rhetoric I've seen is based on the portrayal of the trans person as somehow running an elaborate deception. Never mind that the shooter was born female and so isn't trying to prey on innocent white women in the bathroom, but this just proves to them that this is an evil conspiracy.

And just a few weeks ago, someone at Wingnut Woodstock (CPAC) called for the eradication of transgender people.

If transgender people feel threatened, I don’t blame them.

Hee Hawley calls it a hate crime because it happened at a white Christian school

When’s he going to run away from the trans mob? Very soon, I hope.

I get that - but it isn't like we've seen any laws passed targetting straight-white men after one of these things. Maybe at the next Pride parades, drag queens should march down the street with their AR-15s instead of books and the righties heads will explode in confusion.

Much like the Black Panthers showing up the California state capital legally open carrying rifles and shotguns got the NRA and Ronald Reagan to join forces to pass stricter gun laws.

And the Supreme Court will not lift a finger to prevent it, as evidenced by recent decisions.

And they can double down on the "See, we told you trans people are mentally ill!!!"

I have an idea that has NO CHANCE of ever happening.

As a first step in doing something in this ongoing crisis, let's do this: let's draft, today, a bill that calls for the appropriate amount of time to pass following a mass shooting for everyone to be, ahem, allowed to "debate and discuss policy" to stop them. Is it day later? No? OK, two days? No? How about we agree on six days, then we can open debate and discuss a policy solution.

These cowards would never even do that. So get them on the record that they won't even agree to this. Then redraft it every time they use this ludicrous line of thinking to not talk about a tragedy they care nothing to try to fix because they are just waiting for the cycle to play out and die down again (pun intended).

You guys are in government. So here's a goddam idea: how about you fucking go about governing?

    Assholes.

Ah, damn, I see an inherent flaw in my idea. It actually would work well for the GOP because there would always be another mass shooting within the "appropriate" timeframe of waiting to discuss and debate.

    Well, shit.
