I love how he told the NYP this ...

This isn’t our nice little neighborhood anymore,” Foehner had said in August 2020 article about a since-shuttered hotel on Queens Boulevard that locals griped had turned into “a flophouse.”

“People come down the block and key a car as they pass it. Drug deals are going on in the lobby.

Now, though, where did he go to buy an unregistered handgun, the one he used to (legally) put down the mugger?

“I read the crime stats and I see so much crime. I had the pistol. I obtained it in a bar one night.

Like I said, two separate stories here. And I support his right to defend himself against a crazed street mugger. But he found out the hard way that the law can bite you in the ass when you least expect it if you've been skirting the rules.

Pens have killed more careers than any multitude of weapons. Let's give Bernie Goetz Mark II a pass.

If political policies have led to an increase in crime the why is crime dropping in New York?

Five people shot outside of a high-school graduation in the Fan in Richmond, right next to VCU. About a block from one of my usual bars (was not there). Word is one graduate was killed. Fucking insane.

Update: Two dead (including one of the graduates), seven injured, and our loathsome fucking pussycat of an AG decided to use the opportunity to unprompted blast the city of Richmond for not controlling its gang culture while claiming guns aren't the problem.

    Unfuckingbelievable.

    Just tragic.

This is why we can’t have nice things like a graduation that is supposed memory. But until people have more rights than guns in this country, nothing will change.

    Crime is down in NYC.

It's unlikely this shooting will get the scrutiny it might deserve, for example,

Why is the shooter out "buying cigarettes" at 2am if he's so scared of street crime?

Did the cops breathalyze the shooter?

Someone with that many guns and that much body armor seems to have an avid interest in shooting someone.

"Down" is not the same as "low," especially when you're coming down off a spike and talking about a fairly modest decline. Violent crimes and murders in NYC are down this year — so far; we're only halfway through the year — but are still up from three or four years ago. There were 295 murders in NYC in 2018, which was the lowest since the early 1950s. Then from 2019-22 it went up to 319, 468, 488 and 438. So, yes, crimes are down a bit from the 2021, but I'm not sure it's something to brag about or celebrate at this point.
And, of course, there are also the non-violent crimes that degrade the quality of life. Or the things that don't get reported, or don't result in arrests and prosecution because they're "not worth the time," like robberies, thefts and property crimes. It's how you wind up with guys like the mugger in this recent case who have been arrested a couple dozen times but are still out plying their trade.

Per our mayor, a former cop, it's still the safest big city in America.

I'll let my other questions stand.

The mugger - and the city - probably would have benefited from an involuntary psych hold rather than another revolving door misdemeanor arrest.

We do plenty of quality-of-life policing here.

And we're back to doing this:
