I can believe that gun laws in this country are fundamentally flawed and still recognize that stupid order from New Mexico is not only getting laughed out of court but gravely harming the cause of practical reform by giving the gun fetishizers some legitimate grievance porn.

Pennsylvania is a pretty big state - are they in "hot pursuit" everywhere? Can't they narrow it down a bit?

As far as I know, he’s been in the same county (Chester) this entire time. The house he robbed yesterday is about 10-12 miles from the prison he escaped from two weeks ago.

My mom and brother live in Chester County. It spans a huge area and there are quite a few undeveloped pockets and a ton of places to hide.

And, there are a ton of non-English speaking migrant workers there, so the fact that he doesn’t speak English would make him blend in more, not less.

Another responsible, straight shootin' American gun master.

Pennsylvania Fugitive Now Armed After Stealing Rifle From Garage

A little after 10 p.m., Colonel Bivens said, Mr. Cavalcante saw a garage door that was open. He went inside the garage, where he found a .22 caliber rifle leaning in a corner. The owner of the house was in the garage at the time, and fired several shots at Mr. Cavalcante with a pistol, but Mr. Cavalcante escaped with the rifle.

Guess we never factored in the idea that the "good guy with a gun" could be an irresponsible fuckhead with terrible aim.

That guy is getting help from somewhere. He's too soft to be sleeping in the woods for 12 days straight.

I don't whether to be appalled or applaud the audacity.

This is not very far from where I grew up and I still have dear friends who live in Delaware and Chester County. This dude's mistake was after having escaped the search perimeter in Longwood Gardens, he turned around and went north instead of south, where he could cross into Delaware or Maryland and start confusing the police chain of command. But as is often the case, he carefully planned his actual escape and gave not a thought to "OK, I'm out, now what?" His ability to evade capture for two weeks indicates that if he had been a better planner, the authorities might still be looking.

I agree in that I think his lack of a plan actually had the authorities guessing for a bit. The go-to move is to head toward Mexico and this guy confounded that. Thank God he didn't appear to have gang affiliations because he could've disappeared into that criminal network.
