I’m not the squeamish type, but the absolute horror of watching the Uvalde response via bodycam on “Frontline” this week put me on the verge of throwing up.

Pure evil meeting pure cowardice. If there’s ever a moment I give up on humans as a species, that’s going to be on my mind.

34 years ago today I was an 18 year old Freshman in Montreal when 14 women were massacred at École Polytechnique. I didn’t fully grasp it in the moment.

I’m not sure if Canadian universities still have memorials for it outside of Quebec.

Suspect may have been a former East Carolina professor applying for a job at UNLV. He also has some Georgia connections, according to the report I read.

What a world we live in.

First round of the National Finals Rodeo (at the Thomas & Mack) either postponed or canceled entirely.

Damn. Improper to ask if it’s something that could have been predicted? If so I’m happy to withdraw or be ignored.

I didn't know him all that well, but in certain disciplines it's a small world. The job I just retired from, when I was a candidate for it I was also a candidate for several other jobs, one of which was ECU. Right around the time I was letting schools know I'd taken something, I bumped into him at a conference. When he asked where I was going and I told him, there was this godawful pause, and then he said something on the order of, "Huh! I thought I was still in the running for that one."

Just heard from a good friend who worked with Polito at ECU and is one of the 22 letter recipients.
