If fans did it in Pittsburgh, Bettman would give them all $500 each.

I will be at Game 2, hopefully I see a few.

Oh, good, the old Bettman's-sucking-Pittsburgh's-dicks whine. That's another NHL "tradition" I think the world of.

And if they want to throw 19,000, or 38,000 octopi(?) tomorrow, God bless 'em. I'll still think it's stupid. And I'm perfectly fine with the idea that I'm probably the only one that feels that way.

I never realized until now that "octopi" is not technically correct. Oops.

Not that it's absolutely incorrect, though, because its usage has been so common through the centuries.

But here's another surprise - technically, the plural would be "octopodes," since the word is Greek and not Latin as I had always assumed.

WTF does that even mean? Take your immature conspiracy bullshit somewhere else.

I think I've got the copy desk converted to hockey fans ... or at least enough to have Vs on the TV in the corner. It helped that the end of the Mariners game was rained out.

Great OT goal to give San Jose the win. Nice to see Antti Niemi again; he helped put the game into OT with some late saves in the third period.

Not sure I like "the Big Pavelski" as a nickname, though. :)

Question for anyone familiar with the TV workings of the playoffs (Elliotte maybe?)

Is NBC going to stick with these games even if they go multiple overtimes, or are they going to shift them off to Versus like they've done in the past once they get beyond a certain point? I have to work Sunday afternoon and wanted to DVR the Caps-Rangers and am trying to figure out if I should go ahead and DVR whatever is on Versus at 6 p.m. as well to ensure I get the whole game.

JR, you'd be glad to know your Maple Leafs are looking good down here in Atlanta. For the second day in a row, the AJC print copy shows the playoff capsule as follows:

    Boston - Montreal

    Game 1: Maple Leafs 2, Bruins 0
Game 2: Maple Leafs at Bruins, Saturday 7:00 pm
Game 3: Bruins at Maple Leafs, Monday 7:30 pm
    etc.

Oh, like when Pittsburgh had 6 guys on the ice for 30+ seconds in the 2009 Finals? "The Red Wings were so dominating at times the Penguins once had six men on the ice for nearly a half minute without it being detected." (per ESPN.com) I never said anything about a conspiracy, but that was a little odd in a Stanley Cup Finals game.

You are quite the repressed old man, aren't you? You must be a joy to hang out with. You name call like an infant, you should be in the Kobe thread.

What a fantastic market Atlanta is for the NHL. ::)

Goalie interference is the biggest inconsistency in the game. Hell, I've seen goals overturned when the player was two feet outside of the blue.

And technically, you can have a foot in the crease now. It used to be an automatic overturn before Hull beat Hasek in the Cup final with a foot in the crease. Now, no one knows what the correct ruling is.

Not quite a water bottle to the fans this time, but...
