The US number is a 14% gain from last year's Game 1 (Chicago-Philly), 113% more than the last final that involved a Canadian team (OTT-ANA). Also, last year's Celtics-Lakers final drew a 19 in Boston DMA.

Glad to see the good ratings, because it was great entertainment.

Looking forward to Saturday night, when I can watch at home rather than on a tiny TV high on a cabinet in the sports dep't.

And due to proximity to B.C., I'm on the Canucks bandwagon. Kesler's da man!

Is it just me or are CBC's numbers low? I mean, hockey is Canada's sport for all-intensive purposes and it's their first chance for a Cup in almost 20 years. I know people root for different teams there, but only 5 million viewers? Not everyone was at a bar...

If the same proportion of Americans had tuned in, that would be 51M viewers.

Here is the misconception, not all of Canada is cheering for the Canucks.

Yeah, some of them are douchebag Habs fans :)

Seriously, I think most Canadians are cheering for the Canucks.

And 5.6 million viewers are off the chart numbers.

If this goes seven games, CBC will have Olympic Gold Medal game numbers

Every time I go back to that message there's something new. It's only been four years since a Canadian team's been in the Final, not "almost 20".

Reminds of a stringer at one of the papers I was at.

He wrote offense of line, instead of offensive.

Like JR said, there is only one event that was higher than Game 1 in Canada, and that was the Gold Medal game between USA and Canada.

I want to say that a couple Grey Cups have been up there too, but the point stands. It's rarefied air.

Shhh ... don't tell NBC. Their brass might actually have to admit there are NHL teams Americans want to watch outside of Detroit and the old Patrick Division.

    The
The Minneapolis Star Tribune had something about this a couple of days ago.

    What's the deal?
