Surely you meant to write this whole thing in that light blue font.

I doubt it. And for the most part I agree with him. I'm enjoying the show. I think it has been better since the hiatus.

Three one hour episodes and nothing resolved, medical drama with a character whom I don't care about...

And all so Sorkin could write one rather dull line...

M_W, you dislike the show because it goes in a bit heavy with politics that you don't agree with. It really is that simple. The rest you are able to trump up as if they are worse than they are.

As to the strawman argument by Simon... well, duh. It really does come as a surprise that someone who may or may not be extremely well versed in the intricacies of political nuance use that type of argument while taking a stand on an issue.

Can you really argue that you dislike a show because a character on that show used a strawman argument to make a point about what he believes in? Seriously? Because we've seen countless threads started by Old_Tony, Yawn, etc doing exactly that. And while some here poke fun, in particular to Yawn's threads, they do receive plenty of dialogue. In short, it isn't exactly some far fetched unbelievable string of dialogue.

Yeah, but when old_tony or Yawn -- or PointofTalmudLaw on the left -- write dumb posts with circular reasoning and handy strawmen, they're not praised as brilliant entertainers. Believe me, if they were, I'd be ripping them just as much as I rip Sorkin.

I love Sorkin, but I don't like a character on this show with the exception of Jack Rudolph and Tim Busfield's character, who has completely disappeared.

I'm with ya, Zeke. Busfield's great, and Weber has been a very pleasant surprise. I've always liked Bradley Whitford's work, too...I think if the Danny-Jordan storyline wasn't so boring and chemistry-free, Danny would be a much more likable character. I even like Matt Albie -- so much for the theory I can't get along with fictional characters who don't vote Republican.

But the show itself? Eh, for reasons explained ad nauseam on this thread.

Hold on a minute. You are building a pretty fragile house and I think I need to talk to your contractor about it.

Simon Styles (sp?) is the character. He's an actor/comedian. He went outside to give an interview and then lost his cool. After this, his boss wants him to apologize. He doesn't want to apologize. In his arguments for not apologizing, he's using strawman arguments.

Now, can you say that this never happens? Ever?

You are trying to correlate the character on the show to the producer of the show you are watching. Sometimes this works, however, it can't always work. Not every character on the show is a genius. Not every character on the show is brilliant. To Simon Styles, the argument for why he won't apologize makes logical sense.

Dude, if you don't think Simon Stiles was a stand-in for the beloved Sorkin there, you're entitled to your opinion. It certainly didn't seem that way to me.

Actually, I don't think Simon was a stand-in for Sorkin, either.

There was one line of address from Sorkin -- maybe two -- but the big line was Tom's and it was fairly bogus.

See, again, here is your problem. You refuse to separate reality from fiction.

I don't doubt for a minute that Sorkin was using Simon to make his own argument. But, I'm not about to say that the show sucks because I don't like the way Sorkin argues. Last time I checked, Sorkin wasn't a character in the show.

I viewed it as part of a show. I viewed the argument made as Simon Stiles explaining, using his own logic, why he doesn't want to apologize.

Thus, the main reason you dislike the show: You hate Sorkin's politics and cannot separate any character from Sorkin.
